worries me though--I'm not keen on the "Akane is useless in any
situation involving realistic danger" cliche.

Sorry about this, but after reading that this just wouldn't let me go until
I wrote it:

A real threat?  Well if you went and turned off author prerogative character
shielding, Ranma cast versus a real threat would probably go something like
this:


A big man knocked on the door to the Tendo Residence.  Kasumi opened the
door.

"May I help you?"

"Is Akane Tendo in?"

"Why yes she is.  May I."

Her speech was cut off as the man drew a pistol from under his jacket and
fired.  Ignoring Kasumi as she lay dying on the floor it proceeded on.  Soun
Tendo and a Panda ran in.  Soun died before he fully registered what the
threat was and the panda was shot repeatedly until it stopped twitching.

Akane pulled out handy blunt trauma instrument number 5, the shinai.  She
smacked the weird guy upside the head with it, causing his dead to turn
slightly.

He merely turned his head back picked her up and threw into the wall before
firing.

As Akane's cerebral matter and cerebrospinal fluid slowly flowed down the
wall the man walked over to the phone.  Picking up the phone it dialed the
Nekohaten.

In Kasumi's voice, "Is Shampoo at home, baachan?"

"Hai.  Thank you, baachan."

The man walked out of the Tendo residence not even glancing at the carnage
he left behind as he climbed into his car and changed magazines.  As he
proceeded to the Nekohaten he came across Ryouga.  Ryouga was tough it took
a full magazine before he finally stopped twitching.  Ranma Saotome
responding to the gun shots finally arrived on scene to see Ryouga
ruthlessly gunned down.

"Hey!"

He began to run up to attack.  The man dropped the pistol and pulled a
grenade launcher out from under his jacket.  To his credit Ranma Saotome
avoided the explosion, it was the shrapnel that got him.  Some hit the man
creating cuts that showed to a minor degree the metal underneath.  As he lay
on the ground breathing bloodily through a perforated lung the man walked up
with his pistol and fired.  Target terminated.

Reason for termination: Ranma Saotome and Co's antics being distracting to
Kyusaku Natsume on the other end of Nerima-ku preventing him from developing
cybernetic systems further, which will allow the local Skynet to have a
better chance against the other Skynets.
