Actually, I liked it - Lurker's version, but if the original left out
"with my ki" and fixed the technical problems, it too - but I'd be
more interested in how Ranma, usually entirely self-centered, got to
a point where he would overhear someone's casual wish and go to
whatever lengths are required to violate the netural order of life
and death asecond time, on a much larger scale.
The other way it might be made into a good story, and even keep the
original author's intent of Ranma having 'found her spirit floating
around' and fixed it with his ki, is that she was visiting the mortal
world to watch over her family ancestor-spirit style (that's what the
shrine to her is for, after all) and Ranma noticed, then (still a bit
inexplicably) remembered Akane's overheard comment and decided to
give it a try - her 'body' is something like an illusion of light and
a bit of telekinesis and will only last as long as he can maintain
the requisite flow of energy and concentration, and or is in close
proximity. Bright light will be visible through her, she casts only a
faint shadow, lots of force will disrupt the energy-body, etc. Then
deal with the girls' and Souns' reactions to this, not just
immediately but over a few days, as it gets harder and harder for
Ranma to keep the technique going, and Kimiko is the only one who
pays him enough attention to notice... but at least he hasn't been
sent flying via Mallet Express or gouged for money lately, an the
food is better than ever. That's good, right? An improvement? What
does Kimiko think of the way things have been going on, if she's been
watching the family frequently as a ghost? Does she support the
engagement, given that her daughter gives every appearance of hating
the very thought, and Ranma none too keen either? Has she seen the
oh-so-very-few moments when one or the other says or does something
to indicate that they'd really rather be engaaging in
who-can-make-happier contests than who-can-hurt-more?
Hmmm, best set it during summer vacation, so there's no need to come
up with an explanation for how either Ranm,a stays home or Kimiko
goes to school with him.
If Kimiko hasn't aged since she died - even more, if she's deaged a
bit to look 20sish and 'in the prime of life' and is the only person
to consistently pay attention to Ranma without causing him pain
(directly, at least - he's gonna look like Gos if those rings inder
his eyes get any deeper) does he get a cruah on her? Sure, he knows
she's actually the Soun's wife and dead to boot, but emotions are
rarely rational about things...
Anyway, you get the point, I'm sure.
