Not really disagreeing, but the following question(s) has been gnawing at
my mind for a long time.

Most of the original fiction here at least has SOME element which links it
to the thrust of this list. It's set in Japan, or borrows heavily from
Japanese/Chinese mythology, or uses anime cliches, or is written in a
heavily anime-inspired style.

That raises the question of what constitutes a "heavily anime-
inspired style" - in particular as very few works posted here are in 
anything
but text.
And although any actual titles escape me at the moment, aren't there
some actual manga/anime that, if transfered to text only, would lack
the aforementioned elements?
(Kiki's Delivery Service, maybe? Apart from the names.)
