Aaaaigh! Well, I guess that's what I get for taking so long with my
own
version. XO

I knew others had it in their minds, and I'm not surprised it was you.
But
hey, you managed to xover it with 'The Ring' (both versions) so I'm
sure
it'll be good too.

Heh, thanks. With the remake's sequel coming up faster than I thought, I
might decide to go ahead with "Azuringu twO" or somesuch. But November
seems so far away... ;_;

Heh! Well, only if this is a traditional Program, unless Nanahara
has
already done his thing with downtown Tokyo.

Nah. I admit to only watching BR once and reading one volume of the
manga.
It was fun to watch once (especially since I generally like Beat
Takeshi),
but I don't really want to rewatch it. Once was good enough to get the
full
impact.

Ah, OK. I thought you had watched it recently, hence my injokes :P I'd
really recommend getting the novel, though, but give the manga a miss
(TokyoPop's adaptation is... not up to par.) As I mentioned earlier, the
novel deals with detailed and intense characterization from nearly all
characters, even if it loses a bit from not having Kitano as headmaster.
The English translation is also pretty good.

Aa, a difference. IIRC, the windows in the movie were boarded up,
and
the novel had them sealed with metal sheeting, in order to confuse
the
students. It's just a minor comment that will prolly have no bearing
on
the story, but I found it interesting.

Will change to boarded over. Although the girl is still going to leap.

XO That's going to hurt... well, not for long, I guess, but it will hurt
anyway.

Is that a miffed and dejected Kitano I see among them...?

Don't remember the actual names of the characters in BR (been a couple
of
years since I've seen it)

Kitano was the class' former teacher, coming back to assume the role of
BR supervisor in the movie. He's played by "Beat" Takeshi Kitano :P

o_O Kaorin knows about the Program?

I thought it was public knowledge to serve as a deterrient. They do
have the
interview at the start with the survivor of one.

Depends on your source. The novel BR-world does state that everyone in
the country is aware of Program 42 (what the BR is known as in said
continuity) so it's understandable that the students would freak out at
discovering they were chosen to participate. However, it seems that in
the movie it isn't as well-known, televised reports
notwithstanding --hence the need for an explanation from Kitano and the
tutorial video.

Thus, having Kaorin be aware of the implications of BR, while everyone
else listens idly, stood out for me a bit.

Although now that I think
about it, she would have won a minimum of 3 years ago, since there
were the
two returners in the BR movie.

Actually, I think only Kawada (the "good" one) was a returner. Kiriyama
(the "evil" Terminator-like one) was in it simply for the fun ot it.

Before the first boy could react, Yomi swung, cracking open his
skull
and
driving the nails into his brain, killing him instantly. The bat
was
so
firmly embedded, Yomi had to step on the head and brace herself
before
managing to pry it out of the corpse.

Aaaaand zoom in with the TMI Cam! *takes notes for CSO*

CSO?

*coughcough* The fusion/parody of Azumanga with C.S.I. I was supposed to
have finished two months ago *coughcough*

Chiyo-chichi: Chiiiyoooooo..... Do you like pistoooools?

Chiyo: Yay! Yay! I get to practice with guns!

Chiyo-chichi: You can use me for target practice. I'm bulletproof!

Chiyo: Whee!

Bear in mind the VA for her father is also the VA for Vicious in
Cowboy
Bebop. All of a sudden, this becomes much easier to envision.

And all of a sudden, Cowboy Bebop becomes much more surreal and
hilarious.

"Spike, do you like tomatooooes?"

[Nameless Female Student #14: Dead]

[Nameless Male Student #7: Dead.]

[Mitsuko: Dead?]

(Sorry, little injoke ^_-)

Did indeed go over my head.

The English subtitles in the Universal release of Battle Royale had a
couple of typos. The "Dead?" bit has become an oft-used injoke among
those who have watched it. ^_^

(Particularly because Mitsuko just wouldn't DIE, dammit!)

"Wh... Why, Chiyo?" Kaorin gasped.

"She's too cute to die."

Unless she faced off with Yotsuba. Then it would get messy.

Which one was that?

As Lurker mentioned, it's the main character of Azuma's "Yotsubato!"
manga. Think of her as a six year-old with Chiyo's cuteness, Osaka's
vacant demeanor, and Tomo's hyper-explosive cheer.

Chiyo brought her hand up and put a round through his chest.

[Nameless Male Student #16: Dead]

Well, there goes Nanahara, I guess.

Can't remember that name either.

Shuya Nanahara, the main character in the Battle Royale story :P He and
Noriko Nakagawa were the main focus of the movie, and though they shared
the student ID (both were #15) the couple killed by Chiyo in this scene
reminded me strongly of them.

Chiyo Mihama, as Mitsuko Souma ver. 2.0? Gah...

Someone had to snap. And Evil Chiyo has potential, since she is the
antithesis of it.

Maybe she's being controlled by her ponytails?

[Female Student #1: Chiyo Mihama: Sore head]

"Ow!" Chiyo cried out. "That hurt."

*laughs himself into a well-endured stomachache*

It was time to use that for something other than commenting on the
lack of
names for everyone else.

It was hilarious, personally. The movie's scoreboard tended to become
unnerving after a fashion, and parodying it like this was sheer genius.

Heh! Same reporter from the opening to the movie?

Supposed to be, though I don't remember her name.

She wasn't given one, IIRC.

"My god! You're Ayumu 'Nail File' Kasuga .You won last year's
Battle
Royale
and earned your nickname by dispatching all of the opposition with
a
nail
file.

XD

I think some people saw that one coming, which is the other reason
this ends
up in the Director's Cut. It was a bit obvious.

Actually, having her as the ultimate winner was slightly predictable,
but not obvious (it would have been more obvious to have Chiyo, I
think.) The bit that caught me completely off-guard was that she was a
returning champion XD

You must write it! BRII awaits!

No.

Aww. Then again, the second movie was a mess of a cash-in, so it's
better to pretend it never really existed.

In retrospect, I see that adding the concept of the Forbidden Zones
would have been totally unnecessary, so never mind my previous
comment.

Yeah, I thought so too when it came time to write that part.

Indeed. However, a suggestion? How about Nyamo being coerced to replace
the nameless girl in the Battle Royale tutorial video? Said tutorial was
one of the most bizarre sequences, what with the girl's cheerfulness and
all, and parodying it would also give Nyamo some screen-time, as it
were.

On the other hand, can't say I'm wasn't surprised by the sudden
ending --I was really looking forward to Sakaki vs. Kagura, and
perhaps
a parallel to the movie in which a survivor or two finally got even
with
Yukari.

I considered that, with a wounded Kagura winning, only to have Osaka
finish
her off with the paper fan. But that would drag things out too long.
This is
a parody, and nearly 50k in length. I think I milked it for all it was
worth. I'm satisfied with the end results.

*nod*

Alas! that is what sequels and alternate storylines are for.
*nudge-nudge*

Funny thing, though... of all the Azugirls, only Kaorin got killed
on-screen :P

Only way it worked out. The scene called for it,or I would have
skipped it
over too. The gratutious violence was diredcted more toward the
nameless
members of the class rather than anyone else.

Heh. It was just a comment on how Kaorin seems to get the short end of
the stick in both the series and fanfics (at least Chihiro was
mercifully forgotten.) Then again, she's neither in the "core-group" nor
part of the background characters, so she's doomed to become disposable.
