After Naru had found a cushion, Mitsune showed the magazine
to her. On
the cover, in a very revealing red outfit, a long-haired {blonde :
blond}-haired woman posed, looking somewhat distracted. The text
beneath her face read, 'Female Power! Inside: Exclusive Interview
With T.N. Software Founder.'
Incorrect. Brian spelled it right. "Blond" is for male, "blonde"
is for female. Comes from the fact that the word is derived from French,
which uses such gender distinctions. It's exactly the same as "fiance"
and "fiancee".
>From Merriam-Webster:
Main Entry: blond
Variant(s): or blonde /'blnd/
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle French blond, masculine; blonde, feminine
1 a : of a flaxen, golden, light auburn, or pale yellowish brown color
<blond hair> b : of a pale white or rosy white color <blond skin> c :
being a blond
2 a : of a light color b : of the color blond c : made light-colored by
bleaching <a table of blond walnut>
- blondish /'bln-dish/ adjective
"Yeah, right," he muttered, shaking his head and {eyeing :
eying} the
completed work thoughtfully. The strokes were smooth,
though the ink
was still wet. Not quite with the elegant structure he had
hoped for,
but still neat. "Always follow your heart," he quoted aloud.
Frowning, he considered adding his name to the writing, but at the
last moment decided instead to write down Seta's. It was,
after all,
the older man's advice to him.
Brian can use either spelling. Both "eyeing" and "eying" are
correct.
>From Merriam-Webster:
Main Entry: eye
Function: verb
Inflected Form(s): eyed; eyeing or eying
transitive senses
1 a : to fix the eyes on : look at b : to watch closely
2 : to furnish with an eye
