"Quantity!"
"Quality!"
Ataru folded his arms and sat back, but he knew he
would never win this argument. His old girlfriend,
and now just plain friend, Shinobu was one of the few
girls he knew who would openly discuss porn, which had
much to do with how they had come to be lovers until
Lum showed up. His first kiss had been delivered just
to shut her up on this topic.
"Look. All I'm saying is, it only gets so good. If
you want to really enjoy it, you've got to enjoy lots
of it."
"That's where you're wrong. A thousand mediocre works
don't give me the same feeling as one well-crafted
scene."
Shinobu folded her arms and sat back, but she knew she
would never win this argument. Ataru - dear, sweet,
ecchi Ataru - was just as set in his views as she was
in hers. She still had a soft spot in her heart for
him; unfortunately, Lum tended to walk all over it.
Most of her had given up on him long ago, chasing
after a certain other, wealthier boyfriend, but part
of her still secretly hoped this conversation would
reignite his passion for her and get him to kiss her
the same way again, just once more...and once more
after that...and then again...
"You take too long to read them. Leaf through them
all quickly, and let the best bits blend together in
your head."
"Ah, but isn't that just making your own good work?
Enjoying other good works is the same, but easier."
Unobserved, an elderly man shorter than either
teenager eavesdropped on their conversation. He could
have sworn kids, especially girls, were not so open
about the topic; to discover otherwise sent joy
tingling down his spine.
No, wait...that was just the latest bolt of lightning
from that tiger-striped-bikini chic who was trying to
get past him to interrupt "her" Ataru. She was not
about to confront the boy with an old man hanging off
her chest, and neither was Happosai about to let her
interfere in the profoundest discussion of art and
love he had heard in a long time.
For a moment, he lost track of who was defending which
position, but it mattered not. In his opinion, the
discussion itself helped ensure Japan remained the
best country to live in, as reflected in his own
frequent measurements of one particular statistic.
Not that he often read foreign works unless in foreign
countries.
