The Naruto series very much does not take place in our world. Modern
technology has somehow come about without modern weaponry. There are
no such things as standing armies; the history and geography of
Naruto's world is very different from ours. Moreover, while the
ninja villages are "hidden", the civilian population is fully aware
that ninja exist and have a vague idea of their nifty powers. Ninja
are feared or loved based on their individual reputation, rather than
being lumped into one category.
The impression that the Naurto series gives me is that it could be
set in a world where the Maoists managed to destabilise Imperial
China, but were'net strong enough to actually take control of nmore
than the capital, and a bunch of ninja clans moved across in the name
of having their own space, where they wouldn't need to be quite so
hiddenfor their own survival - it's not that modern weapons don't
exist, but no one bothers to bring them that far into the back of
beyond.
What kept the USSR from taking over a China composed of city-states,
I don't know, maybe there's a wal of magical anime force along the
northern border. Likewise, why a bunch of very traditional Japanese
would want with settling in China, but whatever. I say about 1970s
based on the construction equipment seen in the wave country
episodes, but considering the premise of being in the back of beyond
it could easily be in the present of Harry Potter and the equipment
is just outdated.
I am not clear on the existence of "magic" as opposed to "ninja
abilities" in the Naruto world, but wizards would hardly need hide
more than the ninja in such a place.
I think he's saying that charkra skills ARE magic, but done in a
different paradigm than the wizards, essentially substituting hand
seals for wands. Why it would be overly useful to learn with the
wand-wavers is a different question, though I suppose it could just
be the ease of getting people to throw illusions and minor status
ailments at the kids to resist or dispel. Hopefully, it will make
more sense when the story gets to them.
So, this requires a drastic change to the nature of Hogwarts if it
exists in the Naruto world (which all the dialogue about it would
seem to indicate.) It's either the school where the
British-equivalent ninja children train, or a village that
specializes in "magic"-like ninja abilities. Either way, the Harry
Potter characters are going to have severely different histories, and
possibly even different personalities.
What I fear is that you're planning to take Hogwarts and Diagon Alley
as though they've come straight out of the books, "Muggles" and all.
While I generally think changing HP to fit into Naruto would make it
better anyway (Microrant time: I hate the HP series, and if you
substitute nigger, kike, wop, raghead, or whatever racial insult
applies to you every time someone says "muggle" you'll see why) I
don't think it neccessarily has to be so, as you've seen above.
Another concern is the number of characters in this chapter alone.
They seemed to come in big clumps, with little way of distinguishing
them from one another (admittedly, I am only up to the introduction
of Rock Lee in the manga), and it looks like you'll have another
character explosion as soon as the ninja hit Diagon Alley.
Honestly, I'd suggest trimming the cast severely, and acknowledging
that the two worlds don't actually work together.
First episodes are often hard to do without being a procession of
introductions, but it wasn't TOO bad - basically a bunch of scenes
for small groups, instead of just c9ollecting them all, giving each
one a name and a line or two of dialogue, and moving out - but I
think that if I'd have been doing it, I'd have kept it down to
whoever the viewpoint character is supposed to be, and introduced the
others as he talked with them getting ready for and during the trip.
Also, the Pottervere is considerably less violent day to day than
Naruto, so I'd expect to hear some injunctions against fighting in
public from the jounin, especiscially against freaking the mundanes.
(How is 'mundane' better than 'muggle?' I hear those who didn't skip
the microrant holler. 'Mundane' is a lack of knowledge, 'muggle' is
born without the ability to use magic. One can be changed, the other
can't.)
Anyway, Skjam has good points, I'm just offering alternative takes on them.
