If I recall that particular manga correctly, and my memory may be spotty
but I doubt it, he never actually uses the Mouko Takabisha much in that
fight -- for the obvious reason. He's not confident; he's desperate and
determined. In almost every single other battle he ever fights (except
maybe the battle with Herb) he holds back in order to make it a good
fight, but the outcome is (to him, at least) never in doubt. He's going
to win; it's just a matter of seeing how much he needs to cut loose in
order to win. Against Saffron, he had no such certainties, and more
importantly no TIME to find out -- he was running against a clock with
VERY limited ticks left, and Akane's life in the balance.
Confidence never enters into that fight because he doesn't have the time
for it - it's all or nothing every step on the way.
