Well, actually, it never really had a name in TOS, resulting in a wide variety of fan speculation which P'mount decided to answer, in their usual fashion, by declaring ALL the fans wrong.

(That's one of the things I hate about the people running the franchise. Not only do they hate the fandom, but they will go out of their way to contradict, on-screen, anything that becomes popular from off-screen sources, be it fan speculation, liscenced novels, or whatever...)

In TOS, it was Kronos, but they retconned it for TNG or the
