Uh...I don't keep up with those things myself, but my mom told me she
got married and took time off for herself and her family between
books four and five.... I imagine she's a rather busy person, with as
much success as she's had with her books, so wanting to take a break,
especially with a change such as a new husband would introduce, seems
reasonable.  ^_^;

Now, if you want to argue the quality of her books or those of others
(for example, I thought book five didn't work well at all with
respect to the rest of the series), I'd jump into the conversation,
but it's certainly not something to be discussed here.

As for whether fanfic authors should be publishing their own works,
well, that's not really something that can be argued well, I think.
Fanfics, no matter how good they are, are written the crutch of the
original material to some degree. It might feel nice to say, "Wow,
this fanfiction author is as good as a published author!" but that's
not realistic. Fanfics lack the original conception that a published
author needs, and fanfic authors do not have to go through the rather
trying process of getting published(ask Tyddohki (sp?) about this,
I'm sure he can give a good idea of how frustrating it is)--all they
have to do is wander over to the nearest fanfic archive and post
their stories. There's more to the whole process than just writing,
you know.

Now, if any of the fanfic authors mentioned were writing original
fiction of publishable quality (which honestly isn't that high) and
they were just throwing it onto the web without giving any thought to
making money off of it, sure, it'd be a good idea to give them a bit
of prodding, but being able to write a good fanfic does not make
writing a worthwhile original a done deal. And even if somebody does
have the ideas, technical skills, and motivation to get an original
story written and published, it doesn't mean that it's something they
want to do anyway.
