It occurred to me that, perhaps, another ending would be appropriate.

Kaorin NOT bursting from the room - crying, yes, maybe staring in
stunned horror, but not bursting from the room - then, after Sakaki's
last words, saying, "C-c-c-c-can I join in?"

Just a thought...
