Where's the fun in that, tough? Intelligent evil makes for better
stories. If the Sailor Moon bads were really intelligent, tough, they
wouldn't bother with monster attacks. They'd just open a chain of
_brothels_ around the world, and harvest all that precious life energy
willingly given away by lechers and lonely desperates all over.

 

Actually, if you go back to the *first season* of the original Sailor 
Moon anime, one of Jadeite's most intelligent energy-collecting ploys 
was to open a gym/fitness center, where - as part of the weight-loss 
regimen - clients were bombarded with "Shape Rays" which absorbed some 
energy.

When I was watching that episode recently, I realized that if they 
hadn't tried to keep draining "clients" up to the point of death (which 
nearly happened to Haruna-sensei before Sailor Moon intervened), it 
could have been a very tidy way to gather all the energy they needed ... 
Metallia would have been revived before anybody besides Luna had the 
chance to suspect anything.

Just my two cents' worth from a very recent viewing of the anime. ^^
