Well, Ranma can fill it by growing up himself of course.  After all, part of
the point of fanfic is to do things that the author would never do with the
character, like hooking up Ranma and Shampoo.  The author has laid the
foundation for a Ranma whose personality has become more mature by having
him spend time suddenly wondering about the unseen parts of his family,
something he never gave a thought to in the manga until suddenly 
confronted with his mother.  Even then he never went so far as to 
wonder whether there were any other family members out there  
Of course it's quite a coincidence that just as he starts wondering
about his family and feeling bereft of them that he gets a letter
about them.  

Part of the point of fanfiction is of course to do things that the
original author would never have dreamed of doing, like crossing
over with Sailor Moon, or getting two characters together who
never really would marry in the course of the series.  Sometimes
you do replace a character in a series just to see what will 
happen.  Sometimes you just change a character so much that
they might as well have been replaced.  This does not 
constitute disrespect for the series or the replaced 
character in itself.  Such things can be done respectfully
and thoughtfully.  

So I think I'll just leave it at this:  I didn't understand
and still don't really understand, the scene in the Tendo
household.  As for the Love Hina part, I'll wait and see
where it's going.
