You might add another break scene as follows:  there's a woman, perhaps a
coworker, perhaps a regular at the restaurant, who Ranma finds attractive
(and does nothing about).  This woman turns out to be lesbian, and noted
Ranma's gaze, and makes a pass at Ranma.  No pressure, very laid back, but
we readers see Ranma forced to react, and then reflect on the reaction.
Ranma turns her down of course, but how?  Gently?  Abruptly and meanly?
And then what?  You might even make this woman a martial artist, just to
make it clear to Ranma that this might have worked as a relationship,
had she been willing to give it a try.  Or maybe even a summer student
of sorts?  They worked out together in a nearby park, and Ranma gave
her a few pointers?

Having turned down a relationship with a woman which might have
worked, Ranma would have to face the alternative, and we readers
can see him do so.
