Hi,
I don't know how other people feel, but I do not review your stories
because I simply have not liked them at all in the past and thus do not
read them at all in the present. Any suggestions I could give you would
involve changing what you write into the kind of thing I want to read,
but it is clear from your responses to other people's feedback in the
past that you do not want to do anything of the sort. I respect your
right to write whatever you want to write...and hope you will
understand my desire to read the kinds of stories I like reading, and
comment on the kinds of stories I like commenting on.
For example, on my last six chapters, I have recived Michael Chase's
fabulous editing
He deserves much praise for his unprejudiced proofreading. It's nice
that someone does it, even if I personally don't want to be objective.
in fact almost nothing telling me at all if anyone is even reading my
posts.
I'm not. Not sure how many are.
Now, this could tell me I'm an out and out ass and no-one is
commenting because I've pissed everyone off... except that I've gone
out of my way to be polite and thank everyone who's commented,
No, you've been nice to everyone.
changed things where needed, and explained why some things can't be
changed due to over all plotline.
Well, this may be your problem here. Your definition of when change is
needed and someone else's will not match up. I seem to remember
someone's comments upon your earlier chapters on the list where you had
to reject them even though the reviewer had put much thought into them,
simply because you were not writing that kind of story. However, I
can't find these emails, though I did stumble across this... your
original comment on 2 July 2002:
While I welcome any and all C&C I think I'm happy with this chapter
finally, and do not plan on making any changes beyond > spelling/grammer.
Have you changed your mind?
How can I adjust my posts to get them read, or what am I doing wrong
in the story to make so few people bother to comment?
For me, it's the story you're writing that makes me not comment. I
can't stand Zhu Shu, and the unbelievable ways she makes everyone
around her react. Not that I am against non-canonical actions. In fact,
I am very much a fan of alternate universes. However, things have to be
internally consistent, and not use the canon universe's events as a
backstory when the altered characters would have made those events
quite impossible to have happened.
Or, failing that, where can I go to actually get what I'm looking for?
Maybe I don't understand what you are looking for.
If an author writes a book that doesn't sell very well, generally he or
she won't be able to sell another book in the same series. It's thus
time to find something else to write and see if the response will be
better. Perhaps later, after writing something that becomes very
popular, the old work may be rediscovered and continued.
But in fanfiction, if people don't like what you're writing, there are
no denied contracts with publishers to stop you from continuing to
write. It all depends on the reasons you have for writing. Are you
writing because you have a specific story you want to write, are you
writing because you someday want to write professionally and want to
polish your skills on fanfiction, or what? If it's the first one, you
can't always help it if people don't read it and comment on it. If it's
the second one, you need to branch out and write different stories on
different topics so that you will get broader practice and also
different sorts of feedback from different audiences. If it's both,
then keep writing the one you want to write, but also write many other
stories on the side.
Maybe you're not getting many comments anymore because the people who
are still reading your story are perfectly satisfied with it and the
people who commented before can't be bothered with it anymore.
For me, it's as thermopyle said in this thread:
the ANC annoyed me and the way you used her in the Ranma arc bored me
almost to tears. I don't know if you changed it in your rewrite, but
the whole lesbian ANC that Ranma and Akane and Shampoo all love who
makes things So Much Better for everybody and then Leaves For Their
Happiness...well, it wasn't very compelling.
I didn't get even as far as him when reading.
