Because Usagi was in danger, no?  She's certainly not here--yet the
backstory hinted at indicates that she was earlier, and apparently he
never showed up those times.  That needs to be addressed.

       And because they share a psychic connection, in part as a result of 
their love. In other words, he could sense that she was in danger. As in this, 
Endymion's love is obviously one-sided, I doubt the connection is there.
