Heh. One of the main background themes of this story is that the characters 
are making important decisions that are often (but not always) based on 
incomplete or erroneous information.

The Happosai/Yamada thread is a good example. Several readers have sent me 
messages detailing their assumptions on what is really going on. Their 
logic is impeccable and the conclusions and inferences they've made meshes 
perfectly with the information that the story has revealed to date. They 
are thinking exactly what I wanted them to believe.

And they're completely wrong. I haven't stated outright falsehoods, but the 
background truth behind that plot thread is *really* twisted and will be 
revealed piecemeal as the story progresses.

Grandma *says* she's sorry about her bad relationship with Nodoka,
but the editing of the videotape would seem to belie that.

Nodoka is Aiko's daughter. Aiko stated that of all her daughters, she and 
Nodoka were the most alike. Funny how their actions tend to run along 
similar lines ...

Ranma is way too weepy for my tastes.  Thought.  Maybe Eiko is
interfering with his emotions to make him more pliable?

Not really. I've addressed Ranma's current state of mind in another message 
reply, so it can be summarized that Ranma is simply on the verge of a 
nervous breakdown.

So why *doesn't* Pluto know the Gates are sentient?  They've had
3000+ years to make this apparent to her.  And honestly, I think
Pluto would pick the Crystal Tokyo future because it required the
*least* number of innocent deaths.

Note that Eiko carefully did not tell Ranma that eliminating Crystal
Tokyo would kill Chibi-Usa.  Sounds to me like "she" wants a dupe,
rather than a free-willed guardian.  And that ribbons vs. bows
deception clearly indicates that Eiko is willing to fudge the truth
to get what she wants.

Eiko didn't lie about the ribbons and lace. It didn't fill in all the 
blanks either.

"Eta"?  Nodoka better have some really good backup on that, because
you just don't say that if you don't really mean it.

She's really really pissed off, and plans on committing sepuku shortly 
afterwards.

BTW, you *did* realize the significance of turning in a sealed family 
registry to the local ward office, didn't you?.

Usagi spontaneously transforming in front of her mother, and Luna
blabbing like a madwoman were the best bits in the chapter.  Keep
those, though the protocols stuff was a teensy overdone.
