Several things I would like to say.
First of all, this is the most active the list has been for over a month now
and that's probably a good thing. Spirited discussion can always help
stimulate the creative process.
Secondly, I'm sure that Mark appreciates valid C&C, but Thermopyle valid C&C
is not given in language as... intemperate as your first posts were. While I
won't go so far as too say they were flames, but they were getting awfully
close to it. If you want an author to take what you are saying seriously,
try taking a more reasoned tone.
On the matter of the story itself.
Loved the scene with Usagi transforming and Luna talking in front of Ikuko.
^_^
Since it was mentioned that Setsuna used to talk to Eiko, we really need to
have some exposition as to exactly how she went from that to how she is now.
Was it that she thought Eiko, despite being aware was incapable of
independant action or have the millenia taken their toll on her memory or is
it something else entirely?
Also I would raise the point that if Ranma is on the verge of a nervous
breakdown, his/her confidence would be shaken enough that he/she would be
shaken to the point where he wouldn't be able to muster a Mokou Takabisha.
The key to that attack is confidence (or ego depending on who you ask), not
just for generating ki, but also as a focus. Unless of course Ranma is
drawing entirely on his confidence in his skill as a martial artist, but
then that needs to be stated.
Final point directly related to the story I would raise the issue of Nodoka
attack on the Tendos. Yes I agree the Eta reference was Nodoka being
insulting rather than any actually indication of the Tendo's social status.
But I would have expected Nabiki to say something along the lines that Genma
decieved them or that they were following Ranma's wishes in hiding him
because Genma decieved them or something along those line. I just don't see
Nabiki taking that sort of attack on herself and her family lying down.
An issue that others have raised is Ranma the 'God Martial Artist'/Super
Sensei. First of all, he and Herb did not merely level a mountain, they
reduced it to rubble using techniques that can only be described as
legendary. Not to mention Ranma took on someone with draconic heritage and
still won. It would be only natural for anyone with the slightest martial
arts training to be in awe of someone capable of that.
As for the super sensei issue, Aiko is the sensei, she was only asking
Ranma's opinion as someone who has seen a lot of martial artists in their
time. And his training technique is not actually his. It is stated that it
is Genma's technique with only a few minor modifications to make it more
benign and one thing that is generally agreed on in the fandom is that
Genma, whatever his other faults, must be a skilled teacher in the martial
arts to train someone as skilled as Ranma. Natural talent can only take
someone so far and past that it all depends on how good their teacher is.
All in all, I'm actually enjoying this fic and I'm interested in how this is
going to turn out.
