David,
It is not what you wrote alone, that bothered me. Several other folks have
offered criticism and commentary that seemed a good deal less than useful,
given that Robert usually writes comedy and is, in _Queen of the Amazons_
again offering all of us another excellent round of laughter, okay? Were he
writing a serious piece, where these kinds of things actually matter a great
deal, I would not find it so annoying.
I am put in mind of what happened to Susan Doenime. She was writing stuff
funny enough to rival Robert's work, but after she got plastered on FFML
over trivial crap that did not matter in a comedic piece, she all but
stopped writing. In fact, the piece she was working on at the time turned
rather dark before petering out altogether.
You guys are welcome to pick on me, just be advised that I am not the least
bit shy about shooting back and that I do NOT suffer fools gladly. The sad
part of it is, I've seen some really good authors stop writing, largely
because of the abuse they took on FFML. Brian Randall was one of them.
Now then, folks, let's all do ourselves a favor and put our thinking caps on
before undertaking to do C&C, okay? The type of the piece counts for a great
deal when you start worrying about minor details, such as whether or not a
.45 calibre round will break up green concrete or whether there were
shoulder-fired anti-aircaft missiles available in Vietnam prior 1979 or any
other such crap, okay? It make damned little difference to a comedy piece.
If Robert wants Akane to think of Ranma as a pervert, there is enough
support in the canon for him to do so and that's the end of it. If Robert
wants Ranma and Akane to end up married, that was Takahashi's intent to
begin with. Having said that, for all we know, Robert will have Ranma
married off to the entire bunch. He has not written enough of the story for
anyone to know.
Regards,
Don Granberry.

In light of some of the other "C&C" I've seen offered to the author of this
piece, I'm beginning to think that I am well-advised to abandon this forum
altogether. Mr. Haynie has written some of the best comedy to ever pass
through the FFML e-mail server and he is being treated rather badly for
offering what promises to be yet another hilarious piece.
As the author of one of those "other" C&Cs, all I can do is give my
reaction. Other people are free to disagree with it, and at least
three other people did publicly disagree with it and
defend the author's work. That doesn't strike me as
shabby treatment.
However, perhaps I was too negative. The scene where Ranma pulls
the staff out of the stone was very funny and I should have mentioned
that.
