   The Amazon Queen

A rather silly Ranma 1/2 alterniversalfictionalthingy

   by Robert Haynie

(Ranma was created by Rumiko Takahashi, and is published in the
US by Viz Communications. Humphrey Bogart is not in this fanfiction,
at least not at the moment, but I could go totally insane at any
minute so I'm not making any promises...)

Part One... Here's... Um... a whole lot of people?

If this is a title it should be consistantly capitalized. Unless
some of those elipses terminate sentences, in which case they should
contain four periods.

"That funny," the longhaired girl said. "Where outsider man
learn Glomp?"

    Fanon rears its ugly head.

"Don't ask ME," the redhead replied. "Dunno him, never met him
before."

The period at the end of 'replied' terminates a sentence and is
trailed by three spaces.

"Not..." Soun released the boy, uncertainly. "You're not
Ranma?"

The quotation mark at the end of "Not..." apparently does _not_
terminate a sentence, and is trailed by two spaces.

If this is a sentence termination, then the elpises should contain
an additional period. Any sentence termination can be trailed be one
space, two spaces, or really, any number of spaces you like. But that
number should remain consistant. Additionally, punctuation should only
be trailed by a single space unless it terminates a sentence.

He was understandably mistaken... but who wouldn't be?

Notes from the author should go at the end of the story, not in the
body of the fic. Most readers will be capable of telling where the joke
is. Telling them is like being at a movie theater sitting next to some
guy who keeps elbowing you and saying, "Didja get it? Didja get it? Huh?
Huh?"

"Pardon us for the scene outside, Tendo-san," the ancient woman
said, in tones of resignation. She bore the somewhat odd name of
Cologne... not that her companions had names any less odd. "Of late
we have been much on edge."

The quotation after "Tendo-san" does not terminate the sentence, and
it is my belief that it should only be trailed by a single space.

I could be wrong, however. Oola the Mok? I haven't a copy of the
Chicago Manual of Style at my desk; its opinion?

"Ah... yes, that seems apparent. I was wondering if you perhaps
knew where Ranma was? The boy did seem to know him..."

    Elipses that terminates a sentence.

"Yes. Sorry about that," added Mousse, the boy with the glasses.

Actually, with regards to my above comment... if you are going to
have two spaces after quotation, you should be consistant, and here you
have only one.

"He did, but he really shouldn't have. Fortunately, fate
corrected that mistake--" Cologne was interrupted by the annoyed
voice of the unexpectedly not-son-material Ranma.

"Fate didn't correct nothin'. I'm still a guy. Mostly."

Ranma's speech indicator is in the paragraph above her speech. I
would move that sentence down one paragraph, but that's just me.

As always, my opinions and suggestions are just that. Take 'em or
leave 'em, your call.

Akane stared at the redhead. Then she stared at Nabiki, who was
nursing her wrist after the Shampoo girl had taken exception to her
poking at Ranma's chest to make sure. Then she returned her stare to
Ranma, nodding to herself. Finally, someone who had the right idea
about boys.

This is as far as I got.

I read it because it said it was an altaverse. But the name of the
author coupled with this paragraph tells me how it's going to end, and
I'm bored of Ranma/Akane stories.

    Good luck.
