Also, you'll need to get your weapons info straight - US/NATO forces use
5.56 mm ammunition, not 5.25 mm. And the main problems with the OICW,
which are the short barrel and the excessive weight, would only get
worse by upping it to 7.62 mm. With only ten inches of barrel, chances
are that ordinary M855 (5.56 mm ball) ammunition would have better
penetration than the M993, due to the difference in muzzle velocity.

But all the tests I've seen trying to show comparable or similar penetration
between 7.62 and 5.56 used old ball 7.62 and new AP rounds of 5.56, hardly
fair. Personally I don't really see why someone would use one of those short
barreled things.  They'd be louder then a M-4 and about as effective as a
9mm, at least if chambered in 5.56NATO.  5.56 is good because of it's
lightweight and can use a lightweight rifle but the penetration of the
poodle slayer assault rifle cartidge is poor in comparison to the last
Battle Rifle cartridge.  Penetration of the 5.56 at short range, if its not
short range why use one of those short barreled things, is poor actually
because the tremendous stress placed on the high speed round which causes it
to break up and the fragments that result are often too small to penetrate.
Of course they should probably just use Rifle Proppeled Grenades.
