"Please," muttered Faye as she reached over to pop open the glove
compartment. "Oh wow! This is great! I think we stole that guy's car!
This one was probably waiting for him." Two forty-five millimeter
handguns and a shoulder harness for them fell out onto the seat.

A gun's caliber is the measurement of the diameter of the bullet it fires and
thus width of the the barrel. European countries measure this using metric
measurements thus calibers such as 9 mm, which is about .38 inches across.
America stills uses the standard English system of measure, in regard to firearms
a system of 1/100 of an inch is used. One one-hundredth of an inch equals
one caliber in the American parlance. 45 caliber equals .45 inches or
approximately 11.5 millimeters.

Now if Ranma is running around with handguns that fire a 45 millimeter wide
bullet he doesn't have much to worry about from much anything short of a tank.
(however I wouldn't want his wrists after trying to shoot something like
that.)

Also automatic handguns do not use "clips" to feed ammunition into the
chamber, they use magazines.
