but now the situation was much more severe than a mere
deception.

Still dealing with the shock of being so easily suckered after
three-hundred-plus years of dealing with sexually-repressed
patrifocal cultures, to say nothing of the shoddy workmanship
they foisted upon the world, Cologne stared impassively at the
screen of the notebook computer and muttered angrily.

"I should have known better than to keep using a Microsoft
program for e-mail... I should have known... This was bound to
happen sooner or later. There's a lesson there: change your
Outlook before your Outlook changes you."

"I thought I recognized that ki signature change. Looks like
you've caught yourself a virus."

Cologne whipped around, equally angered and ashamed at being
caught unawares like that, and glared at Happosai, growling,
"Uh-huh. You know what this means, don't you?"

Happosai licked suddenly-dry lips. His eyes got wide and moist.

"No... Oh no..."

"If you're fast enough, you get to keep some of them." 

Happosai gulped. "Will you at least give me a head start?"

Cologne nodded. "'Til I count ten. One... Two... Three... Ten!"

"Ack! No fair!" Happosai took off so fast, his feet tore
splinters from the Nekohanten's floorboards.

Midmorning onlookers in the streets of Nerima, those whose
survival instincts hadn't already sent them diving for cover or
unused vacation time, had any such still existed, would have
been treated to the spectacle of a little old man, running and
leaping towards Tendo-ke as fast and as high as his
carefully-hoarded ki could take him, being madly pursued by
another little old man who was pogoing wildly on a stick, the
one with an expression of anguished horror, the other with a
gleefully vindictive look, both of them shouting "Panties!" at
the top of their lungs.
