Hi there Michael,
Thank you once again for pointing out the numerous errors in the chapter. I
very much appreciate your continued effort at this.
I'll reply to your thoughts below. You can take the spelling/grammatical
errors as corrected. :)
"Yes, Sir," Fox - a gravelly voice that called over Ukyo's shoulder -
acknowledged. She could see the faces of his team with her spatial
sense,
Seraph Wing accurately reproducing every detail in her mind, but she did
not recognise any of them. The AI dutifully searched personnel
databases
to fill in the blanks, and filed a note for Ukyo to review their
profiles
at a later date.
That's quite a change from Ukyo's usual detachment.
How so? She's simply gathering information about these people she's going
to be interacting with. I'm not sure that I follow.
"It's a nice thought, isn't it?" Akane said. "Humans aren't all bad. I
used to be one myself, you know."
So was Ranma, a very long time ago.
Indeed she did. It's funny what nine-hundred years can do to a person.
They hadn't anticipated the dragon's ability to move so quickly over the
rough terrain. That was the problem. The gap between team members was
too
great to cover the distance in time. They should have deployed two
fireteams, not just one.
Everything they have might not be enough, so it is false economy to not
bring them all.
Angel's looking at it from a perspective of her own self-preservation. In
reality, it wouldn't have mattered how many soldiers were there. Guns don't
do much of anything to Ranma; she would have killed however many soldiers
there were. Recall Ryoga, who was in Alpha Team only to lose his thirteen
teammates in an encounter with Ranma.
Blue fireteam was kept airborne so they could react quickly to the changing
situation - better to have some soldiers who can get somewhere quickly via
helicopter if the plan goes astray. At least, that is what they would have
done if the storm hadn't intervened ... at least, that's how it seems at the
moment, anyway. ;)
The numbers were there for Ranma's benefit, not Angel's - the team was there
as a decoy, so Ukyo could get close enough to deploy Seraph Wing against
her. They were supposed to surround Ranma, then get Ukyo in range to
incapacitate her. That was before the storm stepped in and made their plan
fubar, anyway.
Of course, we've seen Ranma mostly dead before.
And we will most assuredly again. She has a nasty habit of ending up like
that.
Regards,
R. E.
