As I remember it, it's the "magical interference" being produced by
those spells which renders technology unusable at Hogwarts. It's a
side effect of the protective spells (some of which are to keep
non-magic people away from the place), not a specific protective
spell itself. It seems to be electrical devices which don't work.

Elec*tronic*, not electrical.

A battery-powered analog watch--as in, a plain old wristwatch that doesn't
need winding, but still uses gears that turns the hands 'round the
dial--would function normally at Hogwarts. It isn't electronic--it's
electrically powered, but has a very simple, straightforward circuit.

An electromagnet would operate normally at Hogwarts. As would a lightbulb.
These devices have, again, simple, straightforward circuits--the power flows
in, the power flows through, the power flows out, and there's nary a chip in
the entire lot. Just one switch.

A digital watch would not function at Hogwarts. A Game Boy would not
function at Hogwarts. A television would not function at Hogwarts--unless it
was one of those really, really OLD sets from the 1950s that uses vacuum
tubes, and even then, the reception would be lousy because, distance from
source aside, the magical field around Hogwarts probably disrupts radio
waves--and cable would be out of the question, as that is most assuredly
electronic.

This, then, becomes the issue--how would a boy whose entire existence is as
a collection of files and data stored on a complex electronic appliance then
attend Hogwarts?

THAT would be the purpose of the story. ^_^
