Subject: [FFML] Where have all the good authors gone? Was: Re: Finding what
happend to
looking for what Phoenix (writer of Lines of Destiny)
and Fire (writer of Destiny's Child and others)
have done fiction wise recently
Nowhere near enough. :P
wondering if anyone knows anything?
and Krista Perry keep up good work with Hearts of Ice!!
More like 'suddenly decide to continue' then 'keep up'... *mutter*
Apparently HoI is undergoing a rewrite now... which means there is some
actual progress... but still... Krista, if you're reading this, stop
wasting
time on the FFML and WRITE MORE! :P
All the good authors disappear... Metroanime has stopped working on his
fics
and all but disappeared, though someone told me he's working on the Anime
Addventure (No, that isn't a typo.)... Skysaber caused all sorts of chaos
and apparently went off to sulk, or something, and isn't working on his
stuff anymore - work on it, hell, most of it's been taken off the net...
and
Skysaber is the main reason why I've taken to saving entire web sites to
my
hard drive, I hate it when good fics disappear... Carrot is writing stuff,
but is a far cry from the good old days where he pumped out one chapter
per
day, which absolutely ROCKED... OneShot has apparently decided to take a
month or two off or something, I wanna start an organisation which would
somehow get him blacklisted at all the game shops near where he lives so
that he can't buy any new games and has to go back to writing fanfiction
:P
Carrot's been getting faster again, lately - or it might be that he's worked
up a backlog of stuff to post. Oneshot just "finished" two of the biggest
damned fics I've seen - though I doubt that they'll stay that way for long -
and from what I've read about the Skysaber deal, I'm not certain there's any
quality of fic that'd be worth having him back, although my sources were
admittedly fairly biased.
And IIRC, there have been things happening on and off on Metroanime's
Mediaminer account - "Retake" is still being worked on, for example.
And then there's all the ones I've forgotten, which outnumber the ones I
can
remember by probably several orders of magnitude...
Fire's disappeared, I'd love him to do Destiny's Child 2... and there's
Hawk's 'Messed Up'... And what happened to Zen, anyway? Bitter End is
still
the best darkfic I've ever read, it's like Vandread Second Stage episode
3,
you can't watch/read either of them without a box of tissues...
Fire, I read somewhere, spend a lot of time sick as a dog and unable to
write. And he probably has one of those mythical "Real Lives" too, which
helps not all. Hawk recently posted a 29 page "teaser" of the next Messed Up
chapter - bear in mind that the longest of the preceding three were only 32
pages long, by his own count. And Zen is, well, Zen... I believe he retired,
but I'm not certain.
This is written in the likely vain hope that one of these authors has been
writing MASSIVE amounts of fanfiction in the last few years and will
suddenly decide to post it all after seeing this... Hey, I can dream...
The story potential of Ranma, SM, Tenchi and Dragonball (Z) has more or less
been exhausted - what new ideas I've seen for these are getting increasingly
ridiculous, or resort to wierd crossovers. And the newer fandoms are just
that, new, stylish, and at odds with the establishment (us) just *because* -
and tend to congregate on Fanfiction.net, where they can pat each other on
the back.
And the last few years have more or less exhausted the supply of substantial
titles out of Japan, for which enough canon exists to form good alternate
universes...
This probably didn't come out at all the way I want it, but that is to be
expected after about a zillion hours without sleep - including two
full-season marathons...
