The sword acting like it did here will make it much harder for Ryoga
to think that Ukyo is just a little different. Was the guard alerted
by all that sound and fury?
Not at all. I'm not going to tell you why, though. It could be that the
sword's effects only manifested themselves for Ryoga. It could be that he
imagined the whole thing. It could be that the guard was off in the
bathroom. Could be really good soundproofing. Or it could be none of the
above.
I could buy most of that, except for the part about it being just in
Ryoga's mind, due to the following bit:
The ladder toppled forward, its once-sturdy metal crumpling under the sheer
weight of the sonic onslaught. Ryoga cried out as his support gave way,
his body tumbling to the floor below
Unless Ryoga was imagining that the ladder was damaged, that is. That
brings up an additional point: what happens the next time someone walks into
Section A and notices that the ladder is damaged? In a secure zone like
that, it's darn near gauranteed that someone will make an inquiry, and once that
happens, Ryoga and Yoiko are in *big* trouble, unless they manage to cover
their tracks with nearly-implausible perfection.
Also, Ryoga really should have taken some DNA samples from the other
stuff in the locker (or at least tried), to bolster his cover -- if he gets
found out, he could make a plausible attempt at claiming that he received the
work order and just followed it, believing it was legitimate. As long as Yoiko
fudged the routing records properly, it might hold up under scrutiny.
But, Ryoga's not experienced in covert ops of this sort, so I suppose
it's a forgiveable lapse. It may get him in deep doodoo, though....
