"Sorry. The report also said these pills are really expensive. How
should Lain get the money for such amounts of drugs?"
"Well, there's rumors about some secret fetish club. You know, rich guys
who are into... well..."
"I think I understand. You're talking about these crazy guys dressed in
black, don't you? What about them?"
"Well... Lain has been seen with some of them several times..."

Ah. So Lain is insane and probably brain damaged. Well, that would work...

Lain smiles triumphantly. With a little chemical help her brain now
works at maximum power. The new neural interface tank should provide

"Yes, for three days straight now."
"Why are her parent's so nonchalant about that?"
"Maybe Lain gave them some of her pills? Hehehe..."
"Reeeally funny."

snicker, just wait, the other shoe is on it's way...

Lafiel's new ship, the Alaicec-class Nikushokudoubutsu (Predator) enters
orbit around earth. Jinto calls from his own ship, the R�sic-class
Martin.

Right on cue...

"Lafiel, our fleet is on orbit around the planet. It seems rather
primitive, no defenses safe some satellites with nuclear missiles."

The princess starts to answer when a new message arrives. A female voice
can be heard on the bridge.

"Hello Princess. Lain speaking."
"I've arrived to meet you but I don't think you're much of a challenge.
Why don't you surrender silently as long as you can?"
"I don't think so. You'll be surprised. Enjoy my little gift..."

One of the bridge crew speaks up.

"An unknown program is entering our systems. It used the com system and
tries to get access to the main computer."

Jinto explains "It's probably a virus, a disease designed to attack
computers. Isolate and restart the infected systems and you should be
fine.".

Lafiel turns to the com officer.

"You heard him. Make it so."
"Yes, sir!"

A few minutes later the ship is once again in perfect working condition.
Lafiel calls Jinto and asks him about the current situation.

Oh, if only removing a virus was that easy - unplug a PC from the network
and press the reset button... I have a friend who only last night had to
repartition and format three drives to get rid of one... Maybe switching the
infected systems off and switching to backups would be better...

Well, I've met my quota of vaguely useful suggestions, now on with the
wiseass comments! :P

network.

Cool, now she couldn't touch sanity with a 20 foot pole... :P

"Jinto? We've waited a few hours now. Aside from that weird meowing
crystalline ship demanding our retreat nothing happened. Not one word
from this Lain."

Whee! No fanfic is complete without a cabbit and some explosions. :P

In another dimension a mysterious woman with ornate clothes smiles.

There's always one, isn't there? :P

Alright, that was better then the first one - Lain going stark raving mad at
the start of the series WOULD tend to reduce her effectiveness in battle
just a tad. I can tell you, though - it is NOT that easy to get rid of a
computer virus... :P
