Plug Out - a spamfic by Christian "Schobronics" Schober
Revised version 1.1
Disclaimer: The owners own what they own and I own all the rest. Heh.
I read the challenge at techtv and immediately started to write. About
half an hour later this was the result. In case you wonder about some
weird words, these are from the Abh language. If you don't understand
then it's no big deal, if you do you're allowed to eat a cookie. Now on
to the fic. Enjoy!

<Snip the fic with extreme prejudice... or not, just don't have the time>
Anyway, it was hard trying to decide one of two choices.
1. Could the author's bias be any more obvious?
2. Could this so-called fight be any more one sided?
Sir, I regret being the one to inform you that you have gotten next to everything about Lain wrong. Let's list the discrepencies, shall we?
Warning: The following contains spoilers for Lain.
1. Lain initiating the fight? Strike one. Lain, by nature, likes people and is not agressive in the least. Unless you were referring to the Wired Lain, in which the Abh wouldn't even know where Earth is and even if they did, they'd be taken out before they'd even reach orbit.
2. Lain uses a virus? Strike two. Lain is far more computer savvy than to resort to using a petty virus. And I highly doubt that a simple reboot would be able to stop a virus created by Lain. In addition, she doesn't seem to be the type to use force, she'd use subversive techniques to defeat her enemies, i.e. scramble their minds via their computers, take direct control of their ships through her incredible skill, and so on. By the end of the series, Lain has enough power to literally control anything electronic if she so wishes and has the presence to move herself into the enemy ships if need be to hide. Lastly, Lain has the capacity to even change reality, so it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the Abh are WAY out of their liegue.
3. Lain living in Bacta tank? Strike three. No where in the series does this happen. No where after the series could this happen. By all rights, Lain is the 'God' of the Wired/Internet and can move at will anytime or anyplace as she sees fit. She's not at all constricted by the need of a body.
4. Now a CotS descrepancy; in that universe, Earth is probably a legend, being so far in the future. The Abh probably don't even know or care about its existance, they're so wrapped up in their territorialism that to go out of their way would be foolish.
5. What the Abh are doing when Lain institutes the Declaration of war. Yet another strike. Even as the Empress, I have a feeling the Lafiel takes after her people and would seek to expand the empire she rules. By nature, the Abh are the agressive type and therefore the ones who should have been the ones instigating the fight.
I use those two based off of spoilers I read from the net, for I've not seen the series at all. If I am wrong in my assumptions regarding CotS, then I am sorry.
In closing, no, I did not enjoy this fic because of the mutliple glaring inconsistancies about Lain. However, if the author is willing to give it another shot, I'd be more than happy to assist in keeping the Lain segment true to the anime.
