Greetings!
Thanks, DB, for the public C&C. It's always a pleasant surprise. Especially
so for this fic, since Robotech doesn't seem to be as popular as I believe
it ought to be. ;)
"You can tell a person by the company he keeps". He couldn't remember
when or where he'd heard that before, but it had stuck, as had so many
other sayings, data and unimportant trivia.
However, if you're always alone, then what?
Then a person is exactly like the company he keeps. :)
Ah, be careful, DB. You might force me to think with that kind of answer.
And then, who knows what might happen. :)
Rand moved closer to his crackling fire. Nights in the wastelands
were cold and inhospitable, unfit for all but the hardiest animals and
plants. And humans. Humans were used to surviving; they always had a
knack for keeping themselves afloat. And Rand excelled at it.
Nevertheless, he was much

else would mention it, so there you go. Thanks.
grateful for the comfort provided by his

I'm not sure, either, but I'm trying to cut down in the number of commas I
use. I'll revise it later.
Born after the Rain of Death of annihilation bolts, liquid fire,
and unending destruction that slew over ninety-nine per cent of the
Earth's population,
Didn't think the count was quite that high.
Well, if my memory doesn't fail me, that was the percentage given during the
Malcontents ep in the anime, and the novels said as much. Of course, it's
amazing that Earth could recover so quickly in the... 20 years that passed
between the First and the Second Robotech War, but 1% of the world's
population would still amount to a lot.
If anyone knows better, please let me know.
Outsiders were thus regarded as troublemakers, instigators -- or,
in even the best cases, as just another mouth to feed. Soon, he was only
too happy to stay out in the wilderness most of the time, weeks or
months at a time,

I agree. I'll use it, thanks for the suggestion.
until he only came to the cities seeking fuel pellets
for his motorbike (which insisted on depleting them faster than you can
say "crap this thing used up all the fuel again argh dammit dammit
dammit", unfortunately),
Heh
Rand always got all the cute/comic lines, didn't he. :)
One of the first things he remembered doing was reworking his
name; "Randolf O'Keefe" just wouldn't work for his new life. So he chose
his father's favorite nickname, instead, which held more meaning in his
mind. Besides, Rand sort of rolled off of your tongue much better in his
humble, unbiased opinion.
True.
Indeed. Besides, after getting that juicy piece of trivia, I knew I had to
add it somewhere in this fic. I remember checking the entire Robotech saga,
looking for his full name, but to no avail. Finding Breetai and Exedore's
surnames was a piece of cake in comparison. (Tuls and
don't-remember-right-now-sorry, if you're curious.)
Still, not everything had been sorrow; he had made some friends,
learnt

I'll see about changing it.
After all, you never know what you will find on the road, if you
ride long enough. As far as sayings went, that one wasn't half bad, he
decided, smiling as the wind whipped his face.
Nice intro to him finding Scott and getting a little insight into Rand's
brain. I can really see him saying all that, which means its good work on
your part.
Thanks. As I said in the notes, he's among my favourite characters. The
fascination started with the anime, of course, but after reading the novels
it was stronger. In my opinion, the true protagonist of the third arc is
Rand, instead of Scott. Most of the story is told from his viewpoint (hell,
as you well know, he's the narrator through several chapters), and he's
there from the first moment.
And besides, Rand/Rook is much more interesting than Scott/Marlene. ;)
NOTES: This was just a little something to get over my shortage of
writing, a study of one of my favorite characters; hope you were able to
enjoy it, even if only just a bit. Sorry, m'dear McKinneys, for
borrowing your title;
Actually that would fit well with Rand's autobiography. So that means
you're
validating their suggestions. :)
In a way, but I felt it needed to be said. You wouldn't know how frustrated
I was after reading the end of book 12. McKinney should have actually
written some of those pseudo-books he kept teasing us with. Especially Notes
on the Run. :)
Nice work.
Thanks once again, both for the kind words and the public commentary. I
appreciate your hard work, and I imagine every other FFMLer does, too. Keep
it up. :)
Farewell,
