OK, let's presume it should be kept under the "Character driven story"
model; that would further validate my statement that the other scenes
need to be shortened. The author establishes a mostly plot driven
storyline up to that point. Even were we to assume (and you know what
that does) that the reader has never read Ranma 1/2 or watched the
anime, this fic seems to suffer from a mild case of Too Much
Information. It's not severe, just a bit annoying. Getting back to the
C&C, all the preceding scenes up to that point are primarily plot
driven. We learn very little about the characters we don't already know
aside from their actions. They are rather long, and sort of waffle
between character and plot driven. If this /is/ supposed to be
character driven, the writing would best be served by a mild re-write to
focus the preceding scenes more on the characters. If it's plot driven,
my original statement stands.
*shrug* There's such a thing as a mixture, too. :)
Ultimately, it boils down to: the scene worked for me, but not for you.
I suspect there'll be something of that in just about any 'fic.
