In an anime, when s character gets angry, they might show it by drawing
a "battle aura" around that character. But if you were actually nearby
someone who became angry, how would you be able to tell? By detecting a
"battle aura"? Not bloody likely.

Yet, the characters in both the anime and manga have shown the
consistent ability to see those battle auras when someone else gets
ticked off. So, one can assume that in their world, yes, when someone
gets really angry, you can tell by the glowy stuff coming off of them.
It comes down to a matter of style, whether you are attempting to write
a story that is like an anime in style (which is, basically, part of the
point of writing an ANIME fanfic, I feel), or if you're going for the
"realism" factor. Which you use may depend upon the tone you want your
story to have, or just your own personal preference. IE, someone can
choose to use battle auras and wildly-colored hair, or you can
"un-anime" the story and so on.
I'm not really saying your opinion on this is wrong, though I disagree
with it for my own writing and for what I like to read. But I'm more
saying that it's your -opinion- on how it should be written, and not a
hard-and-fast rule.
