           The blind truth

       Behind Mousse's glasses

Flying through the air, Mousse wondered where he might land this time.
Shampoo tended to put him in water. Whether it was a pond or a drinking
glass, he invariably got wet... or so Shampoo and Cologne thought.

Mere moments after he became airborne, the look of blind adoration he
used when Shampoo was around disappeared. His mind was wandering in the
direction of, 'What to do to get Shampoo to hate me even more?'

You see; Mousse detested Shampoo. Surprised you didn't I.

It's simple math, everyone knows that going on after a girl the way he
does won't work. It's embarrassing. What girl could like that kind of
performance? So the question was, why does Mousse subject himself to
that kind of punishment?

The answer was extremely simple. He had to. In fact, he had orders to.
What are these orders, you might ask? Simple, keep Cologne in Japan...
or more appropriately, out of China.

Originally, his orders were to get close to Cologne through Shampoo.
Attempting to court her put Mousse in a perfect position to spy on the
elder matriarch... or so they hoped. Not terribly successful, but it did
occasionally garner results.

Ranma's appearance was like a gift from the gods. When Shampoo went
tearing off after him/her, Cologne's attention to governing the tribe
wavered. When Shampoo returned in defeat, Cologne was completely thrown.
Her granddaughter... defeated by some lowly outsider? Totally
unthinkable. Totally inexcusable.

On top of which, Cologne now had the dubious duty of punishing Shampoo
for her failure. This diverted the elder amazon's attention completely.
She made restoring Shampoo's honor her primary duty. This quickly led to
following her granddaughter back to Japan. His leaders nearly threw a
party the day she left.

By now, you're probably wondering who these people are. They were the
repressed men of the amazon tribe, forced to live as second class
citizens under amazon law.

It's not like they were badly treated... but being looked down upon as a
lower life form does wear thin after a while. Now, many years after the
inception of the secret male revolution, a chance had been handed to
them on a silver platter: Cologne had just left for Japan, with no set
time of return. The problem was, a coup takes time and they weren't
ready. Keeping her away would be paramount. Hence, Mousse's standing
orders became to keep both Shampoo and Cologne distracted in Japan for
as long as possible.

Now that the truth about Ranma was known, Mousse had to make sure that
Shampoo didn't get him or the party would be over. To make matters more
complicated; he had to make sure that none of the other women got him
either. Any form of closure would mark the end of everyone's stay here.
He wasn't just here to sabotage Shampoo's plans... but everyone's plans.
Maintain the status quo.

Touching down beside a restaurant with an outdoor terrace, Mousse calmly
landed on his feet and made his way to a waiter he knew fairly well.

Reaching into his robes, Mousse pulled out a coin and flipped it towards
the man.
Catching the coin out of mid-air, the waiter stashed it in his pocket,
then grabbed a glass of water and raised his eyebrow.

Mousse spread his arms and said, "hit me baby."

One splash later and Mousse was transformed to into the familiar form of
a duck. With a burst of strength that a real duck would be envious of,
he launched himself into the air.

While making pitiful quacking sounds, Mousse made his way home,
continuing an act that he was so sick of but dared not give up. Too many
people were counting on him.
