A swirl of blue and black light engulfed Gourry and Lina and they left
the world of Chaotic Blue and the Typhoon Dragon. When the light faded,
they were on a battered wasteland. Lina reached down and pulled the
Lance of Light from the hands of a skeleton. She was about to cast her
spell, when she saw two people coming towards her.
'Sirius and Eurologus. I'm going to need at least one other person for
the spell.'
She quickly waved at them to join her. The two gods were a bit
surprised at seeing Lina and Gourry. Eurologus saw the weapon Lina was
holding.
"We need that weapon to save the world," Eurologus said, as he
approached Lina.
"Have you talked to Almayce yet? I'm Lina Inverse and this is Gourry
Gabriev."
Sirius held a hand in front of his companion and replied, "We have not
had a chance to. Why?"
While pointing, Gourry shouted, "Lina! Look there! Those people are
being attacked by something."
Lina felt her mouth go dry as she saw the full form of Darkstar/Vorfeed
blasting away at the landscape. Several groups of humans, elves, Gods,
and Monsters were trying to dodge the attacks. Lina tossed Ragud
Mezegis at Sirius, who caught it one handed, and drew Galvayra out.
Lighting the bow, to the shock of the two Gods, Lina called out.
"Darkstar/Vorfeed when next we meet, I'll be your destroyer."
With that Lina cast her spell through Galvayra, boosting it with the
talismans and stone.
"Lord of the dreams that terrify."
"Sword of cold and darkness,
"Free yourself from the heavens' bonds."
"Become one with my body. One with my power."
"And, let us walk the path of destruction together."
"Power that can smash even the souls of the gods."
"RAGNA BLADE!"
Lina loosed a black arrow crackling with gold lightning at the fusion
of God and Monster. The explosion caused Darkstar/Vorfeed to reel back
in pain, allowing several people to escape the wrath of the berserk
Demon of Destruction.
"Let's get back to Almayce. All the weapons have been gathered," Lina
said. "Now, it's time to kill Darkstar."
Grabbing Gourry by the ear, Lina chanted her spell. Red and black
energies surrounded her, as she left the Overworld. Once the mystic
forces faded, Lina was standing back in the dimensional portal of her
world. She noticed that Almayce and Milgasia were busy working on the
place. A sudden flash of white light behind Lina alerted her that
Sirius and Eurologus had followed her. She nodded in satisfaction, as
she saw that Sirius still carried Ragud Mezegis. Milgasia and Almayce
stopped working and came over to see what was going on.
Sirius asked, "What do you mean all the weapons have been gathered?
Only this and Galvayra have been found so far."
Lina pointed with her thumb at Gourry. "His family has held the Sword
of Light for several generations. You know it as Gorun Nova. As to the
others...."
Lina pulled out Nezzard and activated it. After doing so, she passed
it off to Almayce and drew Bodigar. Smiling, she caused the light to
appear on the axe and handed it to Milgasia.
"All five weapons are here. As soon as the modifications are done
here, we kill Darkstar. How much longer, Almayce?"
Almayce sighed. "I wish we could saw we were done, but it's going to
take at least another week to finish things."
"Uh. Yeah. Better make it two weeks. I'm not going to be able to
cast the spell a week from now. I'm human girl and my magic fades for a
day every month. A week from now is when my magic is gone."
Milgasia shook his finger. "I'll explain this to the Overworlders."
Almayce chuckled. "There's no need. I know exactly what she's talking
about. We can use the extra time to reinforce the structure. Since
you'll be waiting anyway, do you want anything that we can provide."
Gourry said, "Well, we've had food from the other two worlds and Lina
has learned magic from those worlds as well. We could try some of the
food from your world and Lina could learn the magic of your world."
"It would kill the boredom," Lina muttered to herself, and looked
around. "Soon, Heaven's Arrow will be ready to go."
Eurologus asked in a desperate voice, "Why don't we just open the
portal now and kill Darkstar?"
Almayce replied, "If it wasn't for Lina, we wouldn't have the weapons
here now. We'd still be hunting for them. I've already taken a look at
what she wants to do and I agree that it will give us a much greater
chance of killing Darkstar."
Lina pulled out the sphere she found on the Typhoon Dragon's world.
"Here. This should be used as well. It's a powerful magic booster."
Almayce took the sphere and looked at Lina quizzically. She pointed to
where the Philosopher's Stone talisman was to be placed. Almayce nodded
and went back to work. He motioned for Eurologus and Milgasia to join
him.
'With that taking the place of the stone, I can keep the Philosopher's
Stone hidden and able to add its power in as well.'
She noticed that Sirius had place the Darkstar weapons she had passed
out on a table. The pink God of the Overworld approached Lina.
"So, you've learned magic from the worlds of the Hurricane Dragon,
Flare Dragon, and Typhoon Dragon. And now, you want to learn the magic
of our world."
Lina shrugged. "Holy Magic and Black Magic are useless to me, since
they call upon the forces of your world. I've actually just gathered
books up and studied from them."
Sirius nodded. "I can get you the books that you want. You could
study them while we work. Is there anything else I can do?"
Lina pretended to think about it. "Actually, there is. There's this
town that's suffering from a drought. If you could go free the water
that's been blocked by falling stones....."
Lina quickly gave the directions to Sirius. He nodded and left. He
returned with the books for Lina to read and went to help that town Lina
had pointed out.
'I'm letting Sirius save that town like he did in the original time,'
Lina thought, as she studied the spells in her new books. 'I might not
be the most powerful sorceress in the world, but I'm going to be the
most versatile'
As the days passed, Lina studied her books. While she was doing that,
Gourry practiced his sword skills with one of the three Gods. They
quickly gave him pointers in how to fight more effectively, and
unleashed the full power of Gorun Nova. When Milgasia had a break, Lina
allowed him to go through her books as well and told him of the
adventures they had on the other worlds. Soon, the day they were
waiting for arrived. Lina's magic was at full strength and Heaven's
Arrow was finished. After stowing he books away, Lina snapped on the
Demon Blood Talismans and held Galvayra before her. Gourry had his
sword ready. Taking a glance around, she saw that Almayce was holding
Ragud Mezegis and Sirius had Nezzard. Bodigar was still in the hands of
Milgasia. Eurologus stood to one side clenching and unclenching his
fists.
'Let's get this show on the road,' Lina thought and said, "Activate
Heaven's Arrow."
Eurologus nodded and started pulling levers. Soon, the internal
structure started moving around.
'One shot. Even if doesn't kill him in one go, he'll be so weak that
the weapons will be able to take him out.'
Lina yelled, "Phase two! Open the portal!"
Almayce and Gourry nodded and thrust their respective weapons into the
spheres before them. Outside the structure, the pillar lit up with
alternating band of vertical gold and black bars.
On Wolfpack Island, Xellos was reporting to the Beastmaster.
"The talismans have not been seen. I'm still hunting. I think that
whatever breached the barrier has them, but no word on that either."
Zelas was about to respond when a sudden burst of light caught her
attention. The two Monsters looked to the center of the world and saw
the glowing pillar of light.
"What is that?" Zelas asked.
"I-I don't know. But, it's bright enough to be seen through the Great
Barrier Seal"
In Sairagg, Sylphiel and her father stood beside Rezo and Eris as the
pillar appeared. In Zefilla, Luna Inverse stood outside the inn where
she worked. Her parents stood outside their store and stared at the
pillar. At the temple of the Fire Dragon King, the Golden Dragons
stopped their prayers and looked towards the pillar. It was the same
across the world. The sudden appearance of the pillar of light, cause
people to stop and stare at it.
Inside the pillar, Lina yelled, "Phase Three! Energy Release."
Outside beams of golden light shot out at descending angles from the
bottom half of the pillar. From the top half of the pillar, beams of
red light shot forth at ascending angles. The beams started rotating.
The golden ones rotated clockwise and the red ones counter-clockwise.
Bolts of blue light shot out at random heights and angles.
As the Holy and Demonic energy from the vessels were being released,
the portal opened up further and Darkstar/Vorfeed could be seen.
"Phase Four! Amplification!
Outside the portal, the beams rotated faster and faster and started
widening the area they covered, while inside Gourry and Almayce had
pulled their weapons out and stood ready for Lina.
'Everything is ready to go. It's now up to me,' Lina thought, as she
activated all her boosters.
"Born of the Dark Lord. Five lights which spin around the star. Let
the darkness beyond twilight and the brilliance beyond the dawn we have
called here be joined together. I now let loose a single arrow that
shall split the heavens apart."
As the Holy and Demonic energies poured into the five weapons, Lina
could feel the power being magnified by Heaven's Arrow. She let fly
with an arrow. The other four quickly launched energy attack to merge
with the arrow. The black and white energies vanished for a second
before they reappeared as a single blast of golden energy that raced
through the open portal and into Darkstar/Vorfeed. Outside, a disc of
white light appeared at the bottom of the pillar, a bit wider than the
area covered by the spinning beams. It raced upwards, dampening the
beams as it went.
Staring upwards, Lina thought, "Please, let this work."
The immense golden energies smashed into Darkstar/Vorfeed and all could
hear his death cries from the attack. The light faded and Lina saw that
the Overworld had a clear sky.
"We did it!" She shouted. "Darkstar is dead!"
There victory was short lived, as parts of Heaven's Arrow started
falling. Lina grabbed the sphere from the Typhoon dragon's world and
ran towards Milgasia. She stowed both Galvayra and the sphere away, as
she ran.
"Milgasia, transform! We have to get out of here."
Milgasia tossed Bodigar to Lina and changed into his dragon form. Lina
and Gourry climbed on his back. Milgasia took off and shot through the
side of the portal. A small rock struck Lina on the head and caused her
to start bleeding.
'I'll cast Recovery later. It's over. I can finally put this behind
me.'
The Gold Dragon landed on a plain far from any city. As the humans
dismounted, Milgasia changed back. The trio watched as the no longer
glowing Heaven's Arrow collapsed and fell into the ocean. Huge chunks
of rock and steel splashed down.
Lina muttered, "Maybe we overdid the power a bit."
Sirius, Almayce, and Eurologus phased in beside the trio. The group
watched as the mighty structure was swallowed up by the waves.
Lina said, "Well, Darkstar is dead. That's that."
Sirius shook his head in denial. "The power did more than kill
Darkstar. It separated him and Vorfeed from each other. Also, five
powerful Monsters have appeared that will serve him. Fortunately, the
new forms of the Darkstar, Vorfeed, and the new Monsters requires people
to use. They've been encapsulated in powerful flying ships."
Accepting a cloth from Sirius, Lina mopped the blood off her face.
"So, what do we do now? Kill them, now that their weak?"
Almayce replied, "No. Your job is to prevent the five new Monsters
from gaining power."
"How do I do that?" Lina asked, as she returned the cloth to Sirius and
cast Recovery on herself.
Almayce handed Nezzard and Ragud Mezegis to Lina.
"The five new Monsters have the same name as the weapons. However
their power rankings has been reversed. If they merged with their
weapon counterparts, they would become more powerful. The five Darkstar
weapons have to stay off the Overworld."
Lina stowed the weapons away and waved at the three Gods. "I
understand. Let's go home, Gourry."
After the trio left, Sirius said, "With Lina's blood we can create a
clone of her and start a bloodline that will guard our world like she
did hers. I think we'll call the ship we'll give to Lina's clone
'Swordbreaker'."
With that, the three Overworlders phased out to their own world.
Lina, on the back of Milgasia, let fly another Ragna Blade arrow from
Galvayra. As before, they dived through the hole before it closed.
"Milgasia, would you please swing by Zefilla. I'd like to drop off two
of these weapons there."
The Gold Dragon nodded and changed his flight path. Lina smiled to
herself.
'At least no one knows about what we were doing. We just moved so
fast.'
Soon the trio were above Zefilla. Lina pointed to a General Store.
Nodding, Milgasia landed in front of the store. Milgasia changed back
into a human and the three entered the store.
Lina cheerfully waved at the man tending the counter. "Hi, Dad. I
need to drop some stuff off for protection."
She pulled out Ragud Mezegis and Nezzard and handed them to her dad.
Her father shook his head, as he looked at the strange weapons.
"So, what did you think of the light show?" he asked.
Confused, Lina asked, "What light show?"
Lina's father stared at Lina. "How could you miss it? It lit up the
entire sky. It was something that was going on the other side of the
Great Barrier Seal. The sheer weight of the magic involved drew people
out of their houses and woke others up."
Scratching his head, Gourry said, "Gee. It must have been impressive.
Too bad we were busy killing Darkstar to see it."
Lina hurriedly shouted, "Shut up, Gourry!"
With a very calm voice, Mr. Inverse asked, "What have you been up to,
Lina?"
Lina sighed and explained just what she and her two friends were
doing. She quickly activated the two weapons she had handed to her dad
to back up her claims. Mr. Inverse's hands shook, as he took the
weapons back from his younger daughter. She did leave out the freeing
of Death Fog and the Typhoon Dragon, to avoid Luna's punishment.
"Lina," Mr. Inverse began. "The three of you are probably the only ones
who never saw the light show, since you were in the center of what was
causing it. Heaven's Arrow? Well, it makes sense. I will take care of
these weapons for you, Lina."
Lina mumbled, "Now if I could only get Gourry's sword, I'd have a
complete set."
"Sorry Lina, but the Sword of Light is my family's treasure. However,
I'll train you on how to use that axe you bought," Gourry retorted.
Lina pulled out most of the books and gave them to her dad as well.
"I've learned all the spells I want for right now. Watch over those as
well. They contain spells from the other three worlds. If you need to,
you can use either of those weapons. I'd recommend Ragud Mezegis, since
you are trained to use a spear."
'I'm keeping the ones on magic items. I can use another source of
income and creating new magic items counts.'
The three left the store and Milgasia transformed. They made good time
to the valley that held the Clair Bible. Once they landed, Lina pulled
off the talismans and stowed them with Galvayra and the sphere. The
three of them made their way to the Clair Bible.
Auntie Aqua walked up to them. "I see you accomplished you mission and
got all the worlds back into balance once more."
Lina weakly laughed. "About Death Fog and the Typhoon Dragon...."
Auntie Aqua waved it off. "You didn't know about Death Fog. What you
believed was that you were freeing someone who would stop the tyranny of
that world. You made up for your HONEST mistake by freeing the Typhoon
Dragon."
Lina sighed and waved her farewells to Auntie Aqua. Gourry and Lina
left Dragon's Valley and headed back to Lina's chosen occupation of
Bandit Hunting. While walking, Lina pulled out the sphere and looked at
it.
'It's not going to take much more stress. One more use and that's it.'
Lina flipped the sphere up, caught it, and gazed though it with her
right eye.
'No more Monsters or Gods to worry about. I can live my life how I
want. The talismans and Galvayra are my back-up. I just have to avoid
Rezo and Xellos.'
Lina stowed the sphere away, as she heard a familiar laugh.
"I finally found you, Lina Inverse," Naga said. "If you think you are
cutting me out of any sweet deals, you have another think coming."
Lina shrugged, "Just doing something to avoid my sister's wrath."
Naga looked at the person with Lina. "Uh. Lina, who is this?"
Gourry stood beside Lina and replied, "I'm Lina's guardian, Gourry
Gabriev. After dealing with all those powerful Monsters, she needs
one."
Through gritted teeth, Lina said, "Let's go, Gourry. I want to make it
to the next town before dark, so I can get something to eat."
Naga stood in shock as she watched the two of them go. "Monsters?
Guardian? Lina's sister?"
Naga shook her head and whispered, "From what I know of Luna, she can
get Lina to do something for free."
Shaking her hed, she chased after Gourry and Lina.
"Hey! Wait for me!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And that's it for Heaven's Arrow. I'll have to come up with an overall
title for the series.
