-----------------------------------------------------------------
In the town of Lidio, Lina and Gourry had foun an inn had started
eating. As soon as they finished their ritual battle over the large
amounts of food, they talked abit, ignoting the sick and shocked looks
of the other people in the inn.

"So, why are we here? Another bandit group?" Gourry asked.

Lina shook her head. "No. Some of the poeple that I talked to along
the way mentioned a Beast in the area. I want to try out some spells of
mine on it."

"Wouldn't a bandit gang have worked just as well?"

"Not for these spells," Lina replied. "Hey, Inkeeper!!"

A short bald man came over to the table wringing his hands nervously,
cringing everytime he glanced at the huge stack of plates.

 "Y-yes? What do you want?"

Lina sate her untensils down and stood up. "Tell me, where is the
creature that terroizes this town supposed to live?"

"It's in the forest west of here. It is very viscous and has killed
many a traveller and eaten them."

Lina put some coins down on the table and nodded. "Thanks."

The pair left the inn and headed west. As they hunted for the Beast,
Lina noticed that there were holes poked into a lot of trees with gouges
leading awy from the holes, at the height of an average man's chest.
Cocking her head to one side, she motioned for Gourry to get ready.

"What are we fighting?" Gourry asked.

"Not sure, other than it has a horn that it uses to impale people
with."

A rustling of alerted them that their opponet was comming in very
fast. They quickly jumped out of the way as a golden streak shot
towards them and impaled itself in a tree. Tossing its head, the golden
creature cut through the tree's body and freed its horn.

"A unicorn?" Gourry asked in disbelief. "I thought unicorns were
supposed to be kind and gentle animals."

Lina yelled, "Gourry, you idiot. This isn't a normal unicorn. It's an
Elder Unicorn an enemy of all mankind. They perfer the taste of young,
virgin, human girls over all other meat."

The unicorn turned around and leveled its horn at Gourry. Despite his
mental shortcommings, Gourry knew to get out of the way when the horn
started glowing. As he got out of the way, a ball of ice froze a nearby
tree.

Lina had used Levitation to get to a low hanging branch and saw that
Gourry had mangaed to climb a tree himself.

"Great, I'm dealing with something that looks at me as his favorite
food," Lina muttered. "Let's see. Elder Unicorns are the first
unicorns. Their golden bodies resist most spells. Spirit spells would
work if the horn is broken, since that grounds out even Ra Tilt. It
can't fire its magic upwards, only in a line parallel to the ground. A
perfect test subject."

 "PITCH BLAZER!!!"

The unicorn screamed in pain as the black bolt of energy exploded
against its neck and was kncoked onto its side. Wasting no time, Lina
pumped a couple more Pitch Blazers into the unicorn's neck. Soon the
Beast had breathed its last. Too make sure, Lina used Mega Brand to
toss the body into the air and let it hit the ground.

"It's dead. Come on, Gourry. Break the horn off of it and help me
backtrack this thing's path back to its lair."

Gourry grabbed the horn and broke it away near the base. "That was
fairly easy."

"Don't kid yourself. If I hadn't used that spell, this battle would
have probably leveled the forest."

 "How come?"

"Oh nothing much. I just would have cast the Dragon Slave."

Gourry scratched his head in puzzlemnet. "Why haven't you been using
that spell?"

Lina closed her eyes and recalled the bay. "I didn't feel like taking
a chance with it. After that incident where Amelia finally learned that
the Dragon Slave isn't the end all spell, I realized that I had been
neglecting other spells that I know that should be used."

 Gourry shrugged his shoulders.

As the two followed the unicorn's backtrail, Lina thought, 'Maybe I
concentrated too much magic in one area. If I spread it out, there
should be no damage.'

The two quickly found the unicorn's feeding ground. The piles of
chewed human bones made both of them a bit queasy, but they put it aside
to start looting the lair. Soon they had a pile of weapons and
treasure.

Picking up a plain looking bastard sword, Gourry asked, "Hey Lina, is
this sword magical?"

After casting a few spells of detection, Lina nodded. "It can hurt some
low level Monsters. It should be worth some money."

 "I'm not selling it."

"What?!" Lina exclaimed. "Gourry, you have the Sword of Light. What
do you want with a sword like that?"

"The Sword of Light is my family's sword. I want a sword that belongs
just to me."

"Nevermind," Lina said, shaking her head in exasperation. "Well even
without that sword, we should have enough treasure to last a while."

 "So where to now?"

Pointing north, Lina replied, "There's a town in that direction that
sells great shish-kabob."

 "Sounds good to me."

In Seyruun, Prince Phil was talking with Rezo and some messengers from
Atlas and Midas. Phil was frowning as he heard the reports. Sitting
nearby was Amelia who was listening with a shocked look on her face.

"Are you sure that is what that voice said?"

The messenger from Atlas nodded. "Yes. It said: 'Blame Lina Inverse
and her laughing companion for this demon invasion.' We couldn't spot
who was talking."

"The same thing is happening in Midas. We're not sure what to do. The
huge number of demons is throwing the city into a panic."

Rezo stepped forward and said, "I think that someone is trying to get
revenge on Lina. Despite how young she is, she has made a lot of
enemies. Apparently, she has made a powerful one that seeks to ruin her
name and force a confronatation."

Prince Phil crossed his arms across his chest. "Amelia, I want you to
find Lina and tell her what's going on. I'll think about who is best to
send with you."

"There is no need for that," Rezo said, holding up a hand. "My
great-grandson Zelgadis has recently returned. He's still upset at me,
but we both agree that this demon plauge must stop. I think he'd be the
best choice to guard your daughter."

Amelia asked, "Why would he be upset at you?"

"When I was demon possesed, I did something to him that I'm ashamed
of. I'm right now having Eris research the way to undo what I did.
It's just too painful for me. Zelgadis can explain in full detail. But
the short of it is, I turned him into a chimera while possesed."

"Rezo, how could you do that to your own family?!" Amelia yeleld, as
she jumped up.

"Calm down, Amelia," Prince Phil said. "Rezo said he was possesed by a
demon when he did that. Besides, he is having the way to undo it being
worked on. At any rate, Rezo's suggestion has merits. His
great-grandson would be a better protector than any once city guard and
that way Seyruun's defenses against this demon plauge aren't weakend."

"Well, all right. But Daddy, how am I supposed to find Miss Lina?"

"I'm not sure. Rezo, do you have any ideas?"

Rezo nodded and gave a map to Amelia. "I cast a scry recently. The
towns that seem to be in the direction that Lina is going are marked on
that map."

Unrolling the map, Amelia asked, "Which of these towns has the best
food?"

Rezo was shocked by the question. "HUH!?"

"Miss Lina loves to eat. She'll head to the town with the best food."

Rezo quickly recovered and pointed to a large city on the map. "This
one. Its main products are golems, but they do have excellent food."

Prince Phil said, "Okay. Now that that job is being handled. We're
going to have to get as many priests and shrine maidens as possible. We
need to get a defensive force ready. You did say that all the demons
were Lesser Demons, right?"

The messengers from Midas and Atlas nodded.

A cloaked man came into the throne room and gave a curt nod to Rezo.

"This is Zelgadis," Rezo said. "Zelgadis, Prince Phil and I have agreed
that you should journey with Princess Amelia to find Lina. I have
already told her about what I did to you."

Zelgadis removed his hood to show his stone face to the court.

Amelia looked at Zelgadis and said, "I thought he'd be some sort of
hideous monster. He looks cool."

Everyone save Phil and Amelia facefaulted.

"I think they'll get along just fine," Prince Phil said, after laughing
a bit.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Meandering along a road, Lina and Gourry were carrying the treasure
they had looted from the unicorn's lair. Stopping in a small village,
Lina pawned the weapons they had taken, save the one Gourry wanted to
keep. With a bit fuller purse and a lighter load, Lina smiled happily
as she and Gourry contiuned north. After a few days, they came within
sight of the city that Lina had mentioned.

Pointing, Gourry said, "Hey Lina, that huge statue looks a bit like
you."

Lina looked at what Gourry was pointing at. Seeing the huge, deformed,
cute golem of herself, Lina bowed her head and groaned. "I thought that
they would have destroyed that thing by now."

 "What was that, Lina?"

"That thing isn't a statue. It's a golem. And, it looks like me
because it was based off of me," Lina said.

"You can see the resmblance. You both have flat chests."

 "DIL BRAND!!"

After calming down a bit, Lina and Gourry entered the city. As they
walked through the town, Lina was getting mighty embarrassed by all the
merchandise based off of the giant golem of her.

"A tourist attraction?" Lina muttered under her breath. "That-that
thing has become a tourist attraction?"

Walking beside Lina, Gourry had shaken off being blasted into the air
and was looking at all the mini-golems and golem shaped foods being
offered. "Say, Lina. I have a question."

In an irritated tone, Lina asked, "What is it, Gourry?"

"Why did you change your clothes? That other outfit looks more
practical than the one you have now."

"Oh brother. They wore out and I couldn't find replacements at the
time. So, I went with this. I still have my old cape holder and wrist
bands, though."

"I see. Well, you can just go into that clothing shop and pick up some
replacements then," Gourry said, as he indicated a tailory. "They seem
to have made lots of that outfit."

Lina groaned and thought, 'I won't hear the end of it for a while if I
don't. Besides, these clothes are getting a bit ragged now.'

Despite all evidince to the contrary, Gourry knew enough to stay
outside the tailory while Lina was fitted with new clothes. After about
an hour, Lina came out of the shop. She was wearing what looked to be
her original outfit with red pants, yellow shirt and black boots.

Gourry stammered, "L-Lina is that you?"

"Yes, it is. Now come on, I've done the tourist nonsense. Let's get
something to eat."
--------------------------------------------
Leaving Seyruun, Amelia and Zelgadis chose the most direct route to the
city Rezo had indicated. During the trip, they told each other about
their pasts and how they met Lina and Gourry. Determined to find Lina,
they arrived at the city in four days. The two of them looked up at the
huge golem that was the city's main attraction.

"That thing looks a bit like Miss Lina."

"Nevermind that," Zelgadis said. "We have to find Lina and Gourry."

"We'll hit the inns and resturaunts first," Amelia said.

Zelgadis nodded, remembering how much those two could eat. As they
walked, they made sure to scan the crowd for either Lina or Gourry.
They soon spotted a crowd standing around a table. Taking a closer look
at the two of them, Amelia and Zel quickly recognized Gourry. The
change of clothes threw them off of identifing Lina at first. Lina and
Gourry were busy in their favorite pastime of eating as much food as
possible while battling with each other over the food.

Spotting the two travellers from Seyruun, Lina waved at them. "Zel.
Amelia. How are you guys?"

Zelgadis said, "We're fine. We came here on urgent business."

 "So what's up?" Gourry asked.

"Miss Lina, someone you fought in the past is sending a bunch of Lesser
Demons into Atlas City and Midas."

"What makes you think that it's someone I fought? It could be any
number of reasons."

"Not when during the attacks a voice says 'Blame Lina Inverse and her
laughing companion for this invasion," Zel replied.

"I don't laugh all that much. Do I, Lina?"

Setting aside a turkey drumstick, Lina quietly said, "My laughing
companion? Okay. Maybe, it is someone I fought. And, no Gourry. You
don't laugh that much. I travelled with someone else before I met you.
She spent most of the day laughing."

"Miss Lina, do you have any idea who would or could do this?"

"No, Amelia. I don't. The only one I can think off the top of my head
that had Lesser Demons under his control is dead. He was sliced in half
right in front of me."

Zelgadis said, "We really should be going back to Seyruun. Maybe along
the way, you can think of whoever it might be."

"Let's go, Gourry. Someone wants to pick a revenge fight with me."

Gourry mumbled through a full mouth, "That's stupid. You're completey
out of your mind when it comes to fighting."

 "GOURRYYYYY!!!"

Jumping between the two of them, Amelia said, "We don't have time for
this right now, Miss Lina. We have to get moving."

Calming a bit, Lina said, "Fine."

After paying the bill, the four headed back towards Seyruun.

"Lina, I think it might be helpful if you told us of all your
adventures," Zelgadis said.

 "You're joking, right?" Lina asked.

"No. Why? Do you have a problem with that?"

Lina rubbed the back of her head. "It's not that. It's just that I've
had so many. I've killed a lot of bandits and it will take a while."

Amelia piped in, "I think we can skip over the ones you know are dead
and the ones you had with us."

"That helps a bit. I guess it could pass the time as we travel."

Lina went over the adventures she had, as the group made their way
back. She told them of most the adventures she had with Naga, leaving
out the ones where the battle ended with the opponent dead. She even
went over the golem fight that ended up with that giant golem of her
being left intact. When Seyruun finally came in sight, Zel and Amelia
were a bit stunned. Gourry didn't say anything as he listened to the
amazing stories.

Zelgadis placed a hand on his brow and shook his head. "You have
dragons, mad wizards, vampires, and who knows how many bandits that
might try something like this, or any combination of your past foes."

"Maybe Diol and Lagan teamed up to do this to you," Ameila said, and
muttered under her breath, "For some reason, Naga's description sounds
familiar. Miss Lina wasn't too flattering in describing her."

Lina heard Ameila's comment and let it slide. "Look Amelia, the only
way we're going to find out who is behind this is to track that idiot
down."

"Which city do we start in?" Gourry asked.

"Midas. That way we can get two things done at once. Zel and Amelia
can go through Diol's old castle hunting for chimera information and see
if Diol might be behind it, even though I doubt it. The two of us will
check out Midas itself. If we can't find anything, we'll head over to
Atlas."

"How about Goldias?" Zelgadis asked. "Could he be responsible?"

Lina winced. "No. He might be a psychotic villian with large amounts
of money at his disposal, but he's married to Josephine and has Jeffery
for a son. Josephine won't let him out of her sight for a while. I
feel sorry for the guy. Anyway, We'll let Prince Phil know what we're
doing and where we'll be. So if he hears anything, he'll be able to let
us know. Let's get to it."
