Some thoughts on this...
Sometimes a writer doesn't have to tell you why. Writers have their
reasons for this - sometimes it's intentional ambiguity to get the
reader's mind going, sometimes it's because it's not that important to
the main point of the story, sometimes it's because they've got
something planned. As a writer, Aleh needs that freedom in order to
come up with the best possible product.
Secondly, the characters are open to interpretation. The China gang
come from a tribe where a female outsider beating a member of the tribe
in combat is a capital offense, where obstacles are for killing. It's
not a stretch to imagine the sort of bloodshed that could come from the
application of the laws of such a tribe.
In summary, call off the dogs, people, and let Aleh write. Your
comments are well-intended, but I think they could do more harm than
good. Let Aleh take the story where the vision takes it, and I think
the story will be better overall as a result.
