Dear FFML,
My apologies for not posting sooner. After I got back from the funeral things have been a bit hectic here, and I've been rushing to catch up to my life again. Obviously while I think that this is a cool thing to do, the FFML was not high on my list of priorities. Thanks for being so patient! I'll really try hard to reply to all of your letters as soon as possible. Also, thank you to all of those who expressed sympathy over the death of my great-grandfather. He was a wonderful man, and we were we all very proud of him, and loved him a lot. We will all miss him.
Here's a bit of fluff that I just typed up in the last 15 minutes. I'm pretty sure it shows. The rather unimaginative title is "Sleeping Hanyou"
She stumbled as she stepped from the boat onto the dock, something the normally graceful miko rarely did. She lost her balance and fell forward, crashing gently into him. The skiffs pole was held between their bodies. For a long moment neither of them moved. Then, she raised her face to his, and he could feel her tremble. The rush of her heartbeat pounded in his ears and her scent that of sun-warmed herbs and the mountain stream and soft woman made him inhale deeply. He could hold himself aloof no more. She was warm, and real, her eyes asked him a question. Inuyasha dropped the pole and gathered her to him in fierce hug.
Kikyo was in his arms.
Kikyos hands slid over his shoulders and her cool fingers braced either side of his neck. Her dark eyes were half-lidded, her red mouth slightly open. He could not take his eyes from that mouth as she moved her face closer to his, and kissed him.
Her lips were not warm as he had expected, but rather cold to the touch. She did not yield beneath him, but seemed to demand something.
He broke away from the kiss and looked down at her. Kikyo, why arent you warm?
You want warmth, do you? Her tone was icy. She stepped back from him. Then come to hell with me.
She fell backwards, her shoulder a bloody mess, and rested upon the funeral pyre. Flames licked the dry wood, and suddenly roared, consuming Kikyos body all at once.
Then the flames were gone, but a light remained. A strong unwavering gleam rose from the ashes like a phoenix and took a womans form.
Kagome stepped toward him, clad in only the light of her soul. Inuyasha, do you love Kikyo?
His heart tore at the longing in her eyes. Kagome was so honest, so pure, and so unselfish. Yes. I love her.
She nodded, her face sad. I understand. I wont get in your way. But cant I at least stay near you?
I need you to stay near me, he confessed. The light of her soul seemed to dim while her body solidified. I love you, too.
You cant have both of us.
But why not? Youre the same soul! You are her!
Kagome shook her head. We may share the same soul, but were not the same person, you know that.
He swallowed. His throat was tight and dry. Yes.
And besides that, Kikyo is dead.
Something seemed to grip Kagome, and he watched in horror, unable to move as a piece of her was ripped away. She cried out and clutched the wound at her left side, just beneath the ribs.
Kikyo was holding a glowing piece of Kagomes soul her soul, too. She pressed it to her chest and it absorbed into her. I may be dead, but I walk the earth. I may be gone, but I still own your heart, Inuyasha! You owe me, never forget that!
She needs peace, Kagome told him. She needs freedom.
I have found freedom, Kikyo explained. My freedom is in my hatred. I hate you! She lunged at Inuyasha, her hands held like claws before her.
Inuyasha raised his arms in a defensive gesture, unable to run away.
Kagome stepped in front of him and
Inuyasha started awake, Kagomes name on his lips.
He was propped against the wall of Kaedes hut, Tetsusaiga cradled in his arms. They were all asleep, except for Kagome.
Her large eyes were fixed on his face. Did you have a bad dream? She asked him softly.
He nodded.
Was it about me?
He looked away from her.
Kikyo?
He closed his eyes.
Then a rustle came from where she slept, and he could hear her padding softly across the floor toward him. Her scent grew stronger. His eyes opened as she sat down next to him.
Her back was braced against the wall, and her legs were outstretched. She patted her lap. Lay your head here, she offered. Let me comfort you.
The other companions were sleeping soundly, no one would see.
Still clutching the sword, Inuyasha relaxed, and lay his head in her lap. This close to her he was flooded with her presence. Her unique scent, the thundering of her pulse, the warmth of her skin. All of these washed over him and he felt more at peace than he had in a long time.
Her delicate hand began to untangle the thick white hair of his bangs, occasionally brushing against the sensitive ears. His eyes grew heavy. Thank you, he sighed.
Kagome smiled down at him. I feel happy.
Inuyasha drifted off to sleep again, and this time his dreams were all only about Kagome.
