No, this isn't about someone ripping off something written by Charles Dickens, but the theme is close. J.N. Soullard (who stopped writing fanfics a year or two ago) has had his (?) work blatently ripped off by an author on Fanfiction.net. Now, I realize that you can't really copyright fanfiction (if you could, I'd be rolling in dough), but this guy didn't even give credit for what he stole.
I present Evidence1, both web addresses from both stories. Read them both (mostly at the end and beginning) and you'll see what I mean:
http://lavender.fortunecity.com/flamingos/122/bmg3.txt
http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=250146&chapter=3
Evidence2:
http://lavender.fortunecity.com/flamingos/122/bmg5.txt
http://www.fanfiction.net/read.php?storyid=250146&chapter=5
And it goes on and on. Eventually the Ripper (our dear plagerist) branches off into his own brand of writing, but not before taking credit for what someone else thought up.
I don't know whether this is the right thing to post to this ML (truth be told, i've been a subscriber for nearly a half-decade and this is my first post), but who else is really going to care? Fanfiction.net doesn't seem to care, and I doubt our ripping author here will repent and give credit where it is due if i just ask him nicely. So I'm posting here, and hopefully one of you can figure out what the heck can, should, or might be done. I liked Soullard's writing, and hate to see this done to it.
-Rob, who likes to read fanfics (and might even write one someday)
