wark ... now you've got _me_ imagining things. I don't recall the names,
but I can _see_ the SMB cast taking over Utena
@@I know OF the film. Since I haven't see it or read the book I
probably shouldn't comment . . . however the comments of people who
HAVE seen the film disturb me. (14 & 15 year olds think it's GREAT? Raving
about the wonderful suicide or 'grenade in the severed head'?) My
understand is that the novel is supposed to be set in an Alternate Universe
Japane that WON WWII and it's supposed to be an antiwar/anti violence
novel, similar to "All Quiet on the Western Front". I could be wrong.
Plus, I think all these "first person shooter" games have desensitized
people to violence. (Rather like the Roman Games, that had to get ever
more elaborate and violent as the crowds became jaded)
Actually, it was less all the ultra-violence and the (pretty unrealistic)
background that made me queasy, but how people react to a hopeless
situation where there _can_ only be one survivor. Some go for the gold,
others give up, people band together only to lose out to fear and distrust,
then there are those who fight for someone else ... some of those things I
can all too easily see happening in real life. Some rather harsh jabs at
japanese stereotypes are included as well and I still haven't the faintest
idea what the painting at the end is supposed to mean.
Dammit! The good guys DO win and there ARE happy endings. Which is why
i'll probably never be a commercial success as a writer. If I'D been
writing "Silence of the Lambs" Hannibal would have 'eaten' a 12ga magnum
slug at the end of the movie. (after an appropriate amount of earthly
suffering or an assurance of devine retribution in the next life. Perhaps
reincarnation as a lab-rat in a cancer research center)
o_O' ?? reading your stories I can honestly say I couldn't tell you think
so. Perhaps the closest I can recall you letting things come to a happy
ending would be Furies, but considering little details like missing limbs,
sanity, characters, cities ...

thanks for remembering it. ^_*
There are a number of authors around here who have starting stories down to
an art, but you're one of the few people who actually _finish_ things
around here, and finish them well, too.
Please to carry on ^-^ [pulls out the Washyu-patented fans and starts cheering]

Teachers are remarkably resistant towards accepting 'I spent most
of yesterday in Hell. I didn't have _time_ to do homework.' as an
