This is not strictly a fusion of Shadowrun and Bubblegum Crisis 2040. It would be more accurate to say it was a fusion of Cyberpunk and BGC. The only problem is, I've never played Cyberpunk. I have, however, played Shadowrun, and know the universe.
Therefore, in order to make things more compatable, I have removed the magic element from Shadowrun. Elves, dwarves, troll, mages, shamen, etc, do not exist in my story. Much of they cyberware, bioware and other technological devices from Shadowrun do exist.
Genome has been classed as THE largest megacorporation in the world, and the forerunner of boomer technology.
BGC and Shadowrun are not owned by me. I think Shadowrun is owned by WizKids, but I don't know who owns BGC 2040.
Anyway, enjoy the story!
Just as Priss was about to unlock the back door to the
nightclub, an explosion rocked from the elevated highway. Running to
the front, she saw a car fly over the edge of the highway and fall into
the city below. She could hear sirens in distance.
"What the hell-?" Her phone rang. "Priss here."
"Priss, it's Sylia. We've just heard a report of a Boomer on
Highway 27. The ADP are in pursuit."
"I know. I'm nearby." Priss leapt on her bike and sped after
the fleeing boomer. "How soon can you get here?"
"Soon. Nene will be with me. I don't want her engaging it on
her own." Priss grinned as she heard Nene's cry of indignation in the
background.
"Why? What're we facing?"
"It's a BX-22A."
"Shit! The new bodyguard boomer? This'll be fun."
Phantom hummed to herself. She had really enjoyed the race and
subsequent game of chicken. She had not done something that reckless in
years, and she missed the thrill of fear that had flowed through her
during the chase. Maybe she'll stop by the club sometime and buy the
girl a beer. Suddenly, an alert chime sounded in her helmet.
"This is the AD Police. Emergency message to all drivers on
Highway 27: a rogue boomer has currently passed Exit 5 and is heading
north across the bay. All riders are urged to evacuate Highway 27 until
the danger is taken care of. Repeat..."
"What the hell?" She glanced in her rearview mirror just in
time to see a large blue humanoid shape hurtling towards her. Mimicking
Priss's maneuvers from before, Phantom swerved and went evasive, trying
to avoid a collision with the rogue. The boomer flew past her, and she
was caught in the backwash of its jets. Maintaining control, Phantom
stared at the fleeing boomer. Should she pursue? Yes! She had been
living in the Megalocity for three months and this was her first chance
to get at a rogue boomer. Accelerating, she slowly caught up. It
looked like a BX-22, but she noted some differences.
"Looks like Genome finally released the -A model," she said to
herself. "I wonder if they fixed the fuel line problem? Time to find
out."
Activating a series of gyroscopes and autonavigation systems on
her bike, Phantom pulled out a pistol from under her left arm, ejected
the clip, and inserted a new one.
"I hope this ammo works. I'm not going to get many shots."
Letting her gyros and nav systems keep her steady, she held her pistol
with both hands. A small crosshair appeared in her vision, showing her
where they bullet would hit. "Steady...steady..." At an opportune
moment, she fired.
The bullet tore through the armor plating, and hit the fuel line
leading to the boomer's boosters. The rocket fuel spewed out of the
hole at extremely high pressure, and was ignited by the jets, turning
the boomer into an enormous fireball, with Phantom in its tail.
"Shit!" Phantom swerved out of the boomer's path before being
ignited. The boomer kept on going, so Phantom was forced to follow,
albeit at a distance.
The chase did not last much longer. Burning and depleted of
fuel, the boomer was forced to return to using its legs. The roadblock
of ADP cruisers also not helped. Knocking over a car that had been
abandoned by its owner, the boomer began to slowly approach the
roadblock. About ten patrolmen lowered their weapons and aimed at the
burning robot. The officer in charge raised his arm.
"Open-wait, no! Hold your fire, hold your fire!" Just as they
were about to shoot, Phantom arrived. Screeching to a halt, she noted
the large number of police beyond the boomer.
"Aw crap." Jumping off her bike, she bolted towards the
overturned car that had come to rest at the guardrail. She popped off a
shot as she ran, hoping to distract it. She missed, but the boomer
turned, activated its internal weaponry, and sent a hail of fire at the
dodging woman.
Using every ounce of speed her wired reflexes could give her,
she managed to dive behind the overturned car. Huddling behind the
automobile, Phantom quickly tightened the straps to her coat, hoping its
armor would protect her from the worst of the boomers gunfire. Trying
to ignore the bullets and energy beams impacting the car, she waited for
her next opportunity.
Thunder opened up from her right as the AD police attacked.
Their bullets had little effect, except to keep it off balance. The
boomer returned fire, forcing the police to duck for cover. Phantom
stepped out from behind her cover and took two quick shots. One bounced
off the heavy chest armor plating, while the second crunched into the
softer abdomen area. Phantom ducked back before the boomer could draw a
bead on her.
The pursuing AD police units finally managed to catch up and box
the boomer in. The boomer screamed, alternatively taking shots at both
barricades, with AD police returning fire when they could. Her bike,
caught in the middle, was almost a complete ruin.
Phantom remained crouched behind the overturned car, taking a
shot at the sensor module on its right shoulder. The bullet bounced
off. She fell back, barely ahead of a volley from the boomer.
"Looks like they solved that flaw," she said to herself. "God,
why did I get myself into this mess?"
The firefight took on a different sound. Peeking out from her
shelter, she noticed that the boomer was now on the offensive and the AD
police were taking cover behind their vehicles. What were they waiting
for?
With a hiss and loud thuds, an ADP K-12 Hardsuit stepped past
the blockading cruisers and into the fray.
"Yes!" crowed Phantom. "Go get 'em!"
The K-12 raised its impulse cannon and fired. The boomer's left
arm disintegrated, the blast knocking it to the ground.
The boomer was down, but not out. Two small puck-like objects
dropped off its waist and, riding on a low-level electromagnetic
cushion, raced towards the K-12. Far too slow to dodge, the K-12 could
do nothing to evade them. They attached themselves to its legs, and
then detonated.
When the smoke cleared, the K-12 was lying on its back, the
pilot clutching at his legs. Or what was left of them. The explosion
had amputated them at the shins. A few police raced out in a rescue
attempt, but the boomer cut them down mercilessly.
The impulse cannon had come to rest a few feet from Phantom, and
in a move of desperation, she grabbed it and pulled it to her. The
boomer, perceiving the police as more of a threat, maintained its
attention on them. Straining to lift the huge gun, she managed to prop
it up on the underside of the car. Muscling it into position, she took
aim and fired.
The head vanished in a cloud of metal fragments. The boomer
stood still, as though trying to understand what had happened, then it
slowly toppled over. The kick from the rifle slammed Phantom back into
the guardrail, and a flare of pain in her ribs forced a cry out of her.
"I think I just broke a few ribs," she said grimly. "Great,
just great." Trying to ignore the pain, she bolted from behind the car
to the fallen boomer. With its CPU destroyed, the boomer was harmless.
With its core intact, she could do what she had come here to do.
Pulling out a pocket computer and several wires from her coat, she
plugged them into the computer. Reaching into the boomer's neck, she
pulled out several more wires.
"AD Police!" Phantom looked over and saw several officers
approaching. A large man with short hair led them. "Leon McNichol, AD
Police! Freeze!"
"Give me two minutes!" she cried. She spliced the wires she had
pulled out to the wires from her computer.
He stopped five feet away from her, confused. "What?"
"Give me two minutes! That's all I need." Accessing its
memory, she quickly found the files she was looking for. Factory code,
names of the builders and designers, all the information she needed.
Now all she needed was time to download the files.
"I don't care what you need, but-" He reached out and clamped a
hand on her shoulder. Reacting with lighting speed, she rolled away and
pointed her gun at him. Her ribs screamed in protest as they ground
together, and she stumbled slightly, but not enough to affect her aim.
The other police raised their own guns and pointed them at her.
"Hold it!" ordered Leon. "Every, put your guns down!" Everyone
but Phantom complied. "Look, I'm not arresting-"
"Two minutes. Think of it as my reward for taking down the
boomer."
A muscle high on Leon's cheek twitched. "Fine. Two minutes.
But then I want an explanation."
Phantom glanced at the ruins of her bike, and then holstered her
weapon. "It's not like I can go anywhere." With her ribs throbbing in
time with her heartbeat, the two minute wait felt like the longest two
minutes of her life. Finally her pocket computer pinged, and she
reached down to take it.
Suddenly, the boomer shuddered and rose to its knees. Phantom
and the AD police stared in stunned horror as the monstrosity stood.
Phantom's computer fell and landed on the concrete highway.
"Fall back, fall back!" cried Leon. The police bolted back to
their cruisers and to safety.
Caught completely by surprise, Phantom failed to dodge the
boomer's punch. She felt the armor in her coat deform as the boomer
struck and the air was forced from her lungs by the blow. It grabbed
her around the neck and lifted her up.
Struggling for breath, Phantom kicked futilely at the boomer.
Taking her pistol she pressed it against its forearm and pulled the
trigger. There was a flash, and sparks showered them both. Its arm
damaged, it released Phantom. With her reactions slowed by the need for
oxygen, the boomer was able to knock her back into the overturned car.
The force crumpled the frame, and Phantom cried out as pain rippled up
her back.
Phantom, her vision blurry from the pain, lifted her weapon and
pulled the trigger. Nothing happened. Displayed on her cybereyes were
the words, "Barrel deformation has made this weapon unsafe. Please
replace this weapon at your earliest convenience." Phantom groaned.
The powerful anti-boomer ammunition warped the barrel of her gun, making
it impossible to fire. Moving with what felt like impossible
sluggishness, she struggled to eject the clip, pull out her second
pistol from under her right arm, eject the clip from that weapon, and
replace it with the anti-boomer ammunition.
In actuality, the operation took only a few seconds, but it was
long enough for the boomer to retaliate. A small mini-gun rose out of
its upper arm and trained itself on Phantom. Just as she was about to
fire, it shot a short burst into the injured Shadowrunner.
She felt the impact of the bullets, but strangely enough felt no
pain. *I'm in shock,* she thought. * Have to get up. Need to stay
awake.* Falling to the ground, she tried to raise her gun and shoot,
but her arm refused to obey the signals from her brain. The boomer took
a step forward, reaching for its foe.
"There it is, Priss," said Nene. Flying over the scene, the two
Knight Sabers could see the carnage. "It looks like they're not doing
too bad this time. They took its head off but it's still moving."
"Sylia says it's got a backup CPU. That means we have to take
out the core." Behind her suit helmet, she grinned. "Let's get to-.
Wait a sec. Who's that? It looks like...Nene, hit the boomer it the
knee."
"Huh? What for?"
"I want to slow the boomer down and check on the civie on the
right."
"Okay," Nene said dubiously. The two landed, Nene to the
boomer's right, and Priss in between the boomer and Phantom. The boomer
paused, taking stock of its new foes.
"Yoo-hoo, boomer!" cried Nene, capering wildly. "Over here!"
Nene launched several spikes, which embedded themselves in the boomers
knee, and it toppled to the ground.
Priss went to the fallen figure and pulled off the helmet. It
was her! At first she thought Phantom was dead, but Phantom blinked,
easing her fears. Ripping off the armored coat she could see that
bullets had managed to pierce the armor and strike an armored vest
beneath, and that two of the bullets breached even that protection.
"Nene, man down! She needs help!"
Nene was dancing around the boomer, avoiding its mini-gun fire,
trying to take out the weapon with her rail gun spikes. "So, leave her
for the cops!"
Priss bit her lip in consternation. If she left the
Shadowrunner here, her life would be ruined. A sudden movement beneath
her caught her attention. Phantom was trying to speak. She leaned down
the listen.
"Th-" Phantom swallowed and tried again. "Its back. Exposed."
Priss looked up and saw that the boomers back was wide open.
The fireball that Phantom created earlier had melted its rear armor
plating. Its core was surrounded by an armored shell that protected it
from most pistol and submachine gun fire. Setting Phantom down gently,
Priss prepared to attack.
"Nene! Move to the left!"
"Right!" Nene slid sideways to the left, out of the way of
another burst of mini-gun fire.
Priss struck.
Leaping forward, Priss punched the armored core. The impact
caps fired, turning the armor that surrounded the core into a small
fragmentation bomb. The armor fragments tore into the soft core,
shredding it to pieces. The boomer gave a startled twitch, and then
collapsed to the ground, this time for good.
"Yay!" cried Nene. "We did it!" She looked around at the AD
police who were beginning to come out from behind their cruisers.
"Uhh...we'd better go now."
"Way ahead of you Nene." Priss picked up Phantom.
"What're you doing?"
"She needs help. She's a Shadowrunner, so we can't turn her
over to the police."
"Sylia's not going to like this."
"I don't care what she does or doesn't like." Nene shook her
head. There was no arguing with Priss when she was in this mood.
Phantom again managed to get Priss's attention. "Computer," she
rasped. "Information. From the...boomer."
Priss looked around. "Uhh...Nene, do you see a computer
anywhere?"
"Computer? Uhhh...oh, you mean this one?" Nene picked up
Phantom's battered computer. "This thing's obsolete by at least a year.
What do you want it for?"
"I'll explain later. Let's get out of here." Jumping up, her
jets engaged and she quickly escaped the scene.
Nene was just about to do the same when Leon came charging from
around the barricade.
"AD Police! Freeze!"
Nene turned and waved. "Hi Leon!"
Leon froze. "You know my name?"
"I had fun. Oh, and by the way...your welcome!" Then, with a
flaring of her jump jets, she vanished.
