When I published the second chapter of Kasumi the Wayfarer someone
wrote to me and asked if Kasumi ever tried to use the spells she knew
in the dreamlands in the waking world (I forget who asked this
question; I'm afraid I lost the e-mail). I told him that the spells
wouldn't work in the waking world, since they represented a logic only
applicable in the dreamlands, though other skills learned could be
carried over (here's a hint: don't attack Kasumi if she's anywhere
near a knife or a sword). But the question got me to thinking. The
result you can see here.

That was me! :) Though there are still a few points you have yet to
address, though they needn't be done in this sidestory -- Kasumi doesn't
seem to have her grimorie in the waking world, so she can only case any
spell once (or some small number of times, depending on how your rules
of magic work). If she is going to make a habit of using magic in the
waking world, she either needs make a copy of her grimorie here, or else
take regular naps so she can go memorize spells in the dreamlands.

Taking naps is awkward, of course, and writing a copy of her grimorie
means risking it being stolen or copied...
