1)They hop (may or may not be related to hopping ghosts)

The term "hopping vampires" seem to pop up quite frequently.
Not being an expert on Chinese, I imagine it to have something to
do with there being no specific word for vampire (except for 
Kiang-Si, maybe) so a generic "ghost" is used.
Then it's up to the translator whether he feels "ghost" is appropriate
for something corporeal and carnivorous.

2)They don't drink blood, they eat their victims,
rather like the western conception of zombies.

I'm tempted to say _modern_, western conception, but I'm
not sure when the flesh-eating variety became dominant.

 How do you kill/stop Chinese vampire?
1) spread grains outside your house.  vampire is compelled 
to stop and count every grain. 
2)Taoist and Buddhist magic. (Death Blessing stuck to Vampire's forehead)
3)Taoist  (feng-shui ) mirrors
4) glutinous rice,  straw or chicken blood

I seem to recall something about high doorsteps and
the inability to make less than ninety degree turns.
