Just a little information for fanfic writers:

Montague Summers (The Vampire: His Kith and Kin (1928)
and The Vampire in Europe (1929)) describes Chinese vampires
as the Kiang-Si (giang shi), with red staring eyes and sharp talons
that rise at night to feed on human flesh.

1)They hop (may or may not be related to hopping ghosts)
Why do they hop? Unknown but it may be because:
a)Burial clothes bind the legs
b)rigor mortis stiffens joints
c) spirit of vampire tries to get to heaven while flesh
drags it back down, hence up/down or hopping motion.

2)They are blind. Chinese vampires sense their victim's
breath.

2)They don't drink blood, they eat their victims,
rather like the western conception of zombies.

What causes a Chinese Vampire?
1)Curse
2)Buried in an inauspicious spot (related to feng shui)
3)Dying far from home/not properly buried/family not able to pay proper homage)
4)Delayed burial or grave disturbed
5)Murder/suicide
6)Yin shock: shock to the system caused by yin energy

How do you kill/stop Chinese vampire?
1) spread grains outside your house. vampire is compelled
to stop and count every grain.
2)Taoist and Buddhist magic. (Death Blessing stuck to Vampire's forehead)
3)Taoist (feng-shui ) mirrors
4) glutinous rice, straw or chicken blood

Japanese Rokurokubi or Traveling Head
They detach their heads from their bodies.
The heads go flying around at night attacking
people. Some sources indicate that human
flesh is a delicacy, not a necessity. Others
say that while the flying heads can eat insects
and worms, they prefer human flesh. When
the head is attached to the body, they may be
identified by a red mark or characters on he back
of the neck.

If you hide the body while the head is away the
heads will perish. Other sources say
the head will commit suicide by smashing itself
against the ground three times.

Rokurokubi may be a version of the Malay vampire
known as the Penanggalan (or Penaggolan), a major
difference being that in the Malay legend, the heads
trail 'guts' while the Japanese heads are neatly
severed from the body.

The best, IMO, monster/vampire hunter
in literature was:
Jules de Grandin (by Seabury Quinn).
I don't recall if he ever used UV light,
but he did use radium, electricity, radio waves
and 12Ga pump shotgun (sawed off, of course)
He was, to the best of my knowledge, the first
scientific monster hunter, using the latest scientific
advances and logic as well as 'magic', faith and intuition.

The important thing, as always, is to tell a good
story.
