Good. Giving a hint of her problem without stating it clearly. It allows
you to be more thorough later without interrupting the story now. It also
gives us a chance to speculate.

***I thought about how to rephrase it for a few weeks. Glad to know that
came out better.***

Now I'm wondering why she would have learned Japanese at all. Everything
she knows about that is of interest to her is in China. It apparently
didn't even occur to her to look outside China for husband material.

***Clarified. Can't advise an Emporer if you don't have some familiarity
with the languages of potential emissaries. Zhu Shu just doesn't speak any
of them too well. She knows the major dialects of China, (Mandarin and
Cantonese) and can converse (barely) in: Japanese, Vietnamese, Tibetian,
English and Indian. Pretty much in that order of fluency too.***

Do you think telling him it's actually about 29 days will make him feel
better? :}b

***Probabaly not. ;P ***
Apparently Zhu Shu saw a reason to not want Ranma as her husband. You
don't need to be explicit about it yet, but I will be watching for more
about that later.

***It does, but to recap: Ranma acts too male even as a girl. Zhu Shu
likes him, and since she's convinced herself that whoever she marries will
be miserable, since she can't give them "love", she doesn't want to inflict
herself on him.

This is a point I've been trying to figure out how to hint at without
explicity saying it. Zhu Shu's convinced herself that she will never
resolve her quest happily. Ranma seems like a last second reprieve, yet
further exposure reveals he's everything she wants but one... Female. Zhu
Shu's first love, Ying Ying/Cherry Blossom, was a very feminine girl, and
Zhu Shu is looking for someone like her. Sarhia was like that as well. Zhu
Shu isn't butch, and she's not looking for a Butch dyke, but a feminine
personality. Ranma, even if he was stuck permanately, is way too macho to
be anything but Butch.

So, by the Amazon village, Zhu Shu has realized her final hope was instead
the final nail in her hope of reprieve. Only being asked to help Shampoo
hunt down Ranma and get him married to her is saving her from going back
home in defeat.

When she finds out about the Sister-wife bit, while it seems to be an answer
to her dilemma again, She reluctant to jump at it until she's more sure.
Getting Shampoo married to Ranma will give her a chance to re-evaluate him.
We she finds out about Akane it's a complication in her temporary quest, but
as she's been raised to serve in a Court where the Emporer would have
multiple wives and concubines, Ranma having several wives doesn't bother
her.

Here's a question for those of you who have looked into this, as my memory
may be faulty.

As I recall, the nobility in both China and Japan had multiple wives, and it
has only been since western religion has been introduced that the practice
has declined. Since I have had several questions on this, maybe it's a good
idea to verify.

The problems start when Zhu Shu falls for Akane...
