Trying to create a shared continuity, on the other hand, is
chock-full of
nightmares and backstory snarls, because creators don't work off a
shared
vision of the world's history. If Sailor Moon, Tenchi, Urusei
Yatsura, and
Ah! My Goddess all coexist, then Earth is both a protectorate of
the Jurai
and guarded against external threats by the Outer Senshi. How did
the "tag
race" that kicks off UY come to pass with both these in place, and
why are
there still aliens running around doing property damage? Where are
the
Senshi protectors of the other planets implied by the Galaxia arc
of Sailor
Moon, and what action are Uru and Jurai taking against Galaxia as
she cuts a
swath of destruction across the universe? For that matter, Pharoah
90 is
currently making contact with an Earth agent - what are the Jurai
doing
about it? Can Lum or the Uru dreadnought pick it up? Would
Kami-sama be
dispatching a "wet ops" team to Mugen Gakuen?
Actually, none of these series contain elements that are inconsistent
with the AMG reality. Belldandy is only concerned about the earth
because Keiichi is native to it. When the chips were down, she made
it plain that she would choose to let the universe be destroyed
rather than let Keiichi die. Yggdrasil can always create another
universe, but not another Keiichi. Which brings up a much-overlooked
element of scale with AMG. Major plots in AMG operate on the level of
the destruction and creation of universes, not cities or planets.
When as a young child the demon Velsper hatched his plot, a side
effect was that the universe would be wrecked. The Lord of Terror was
going to destroy the universe and make a new one to his own
specifications.
People often wonder why the gods and demons in AMG don't kill each
other, why they appear to be so nice. Compared to the Mazoku from
Slayers or the demons from other series, the demons in AMG don't look
evil at all. It's all a matter of scale, though. The demons in most
series have trouble destroying a city or a planet. Any demon we've
seen in AMG would have no trouble destroying the universe. They are
well behaved not because they're so weak, but because they're so
powerful. Even Skuld has made a device which could destroy the
universe, and she's always being kidded about her lack of power as a
goddess.
So, if the Earth is threatened or someone wants to take over the
moon, such a miniscule event wouldn't normally catch the notice of
Kami-sama or Hild. The only reason Belldandy cares so much about the
Earth is that Keiichi lives here and she's come to have friends here.
However, deities and demons remaining in this universe for so long is
a unique case. Everyone involved, even Mara, has special permission
to remain here. Now, if someone were about to destroy the universe,
that would probably get the attention of AMG deities and demons.
So, AMG really does fit into most series realities quite well. The
only thing that even has the potential of causing trouble with the
series in this fic is Pluto's control over the time stream.
