Ok, I'm lost here. Now, admittedly, I've only read this chapter up to the
end of Gymnastic fight, mainly because I needed something to read while I
eat, and that I had not read any of the other parts of this series. But
this does not make sense. If only lovers are capable of blending chi, then
why are Akane and Zhu Shu becoming angry? Everbody else in the world would
probably make that assumption, if they knew that only lover's can blend chi,
so why are they angry. They blended chi, something that only lover's can
do, ergo, they were lover's. So why are they angry? Everybody else would
make that assumption, even I did when Ranma made that statement. Unless of
course, this is
where the women are always right, and the men wrong type of thing.

***Actually, this is a combination of Akane's usual flying off the handle,
and extreme guilt. Ranma's assumption makes perfect sense, and Akane knows
it. The problem here is that she knows she tried to seduce Zhu Shu, and did
it to hurt Ranma. She's feeling guilty, and more than a little defensive,
and therefore taking her anger at herself out on Ranma.

Zhu Shu's anger is due to the fact that Akane's emotions are confused with
her subconscious, mixed with the fact that she feels guilty for being in
love with Akane, is still hiding Shan Pu, and on top of everything else,
just had someone she thought trusted her doubt in her. Top this off with
seeing Ranma, her friend, and the person she tried so hard not to betray
with Akane, hurt Akane, the person she's in love with. Mixed in there is
the fact that she also loves Ranma, due to the emotions she got from Akane,
and feels hurt herself at his assumption, however logical, that she had
betrayed him.

Neither girl is being especially logical at the moment.***

In any case, why didn't Ranma make a case that since only lover's can merge
ki, that was what had happened? Why did he just stand there like a wuss,
and not try to defend himself from such accusations.

***As for Ranma, he's a little stunned here. Had the fight actually gone on
long enough for him to catch his balance, he might have defended himself,
but he's caught between Akane's fury and Zhu Shu's coldness. He's being
buffeted from unexpected quarters, particularly Zhu Shu, who's never truly
been mad at him before. Considering the fight might have lasted all of 30
seconds, he didn't have the chance.***

Thanks
