Second story idea: Genma is not really that dishonorable, just
overenthusiastic and prone to overestimating himself and others. Thus,
after signing the infamous suicide pledge, he takes his son on a
training trip, and within six months winds up having a part time
daughter. This prompts Genma to take a good long look at his own life
and faults, and he winds up burning the book he got the directions to
Jusenkyo from, along with the Neko-Ken manual...

In their quest for a cure, they manage to get lost. Very lost. 20 years
in feudal Japan lost - with a 2:1 time dilation, meaning that only one
decade passed here before they got back. The result is a Ranma with
complete control of his "curse", swords, and an attitude towards
wannabes best summed up as 'go away and eviscerate yourself, your
exisance bothers me' - which infuriates Akane, and scares Kuno
witless... (In this alterverse, the key to mastering the curse is to
actually want and love both forms - which means that the younger the
victim the easier it gets. A character like Taro, for instance, would
have mastered it by age two...)

The thing that sprang to my mind when I read this was it would make a good
Kenshin crossover, forget about getting Ranma back home, and dealing with the
regular gang.  I think it would be much more fun to have him/her, at about age
fourteen, ending up with the Kenshin cast.

I say Fourteen because that's the age when it would be expected for Ranma's 
hormones
to go nuts, and for his curse to suddenly have a much bigger impact on him. 
Up till then
the different bodies really wouldn't have had that much effect on 
him/her.  It would not just
be the sexual thing either, at that point the size difference between his 
two forms would become
much more pronounced, not to mention the shape, and make it harder to conceal.

That age would also lets you avoid having to give Ranma a romantic 
involvement that would break
up one of the regular couples. Instead he/she could get crushes on some of 
the characters,
but be in no danger of actually getting into an engagement. could be fun if 
played for laughs.
