The phrase, "You've got another thing coming," is a
widely accepted American idiom... I'm not familiar
with its etymology, but I would guess that it's
evolution is the result of people not realizing that
"think" can be correctly used as a noun.  In any case,
it's been in widespread US (I don't know about the
UK...) use since at least the 70's, and the general
acceptance of its implied meaning makes its use
perfectly acceptable.  

If you don't like it, perhaps you should petition your
government to setup an, "Institute of Language
Purity," similar to what's been done in France and
Spain, to ensure unchanging and "proper" use of your
language...  That scenario would be particularly
ironic considering the fact that "think" wasn't used
as a noun until the 1860's, and had such an
organization been in place at the time, "think" would
probably still only be used as a verb...

Notice the phrase I've outlined with asterisks,
people.

I see this far, far too often in fanfics, and even
in professional writing.

I'd just like to know what malfunction in the human
brain makes people think
"thing" is the word that actually belongs in that
expression.

Because if you think "thing" is right for that
expression, then...

YOU HAVE ANOTHER *THINK* COMING.

PLEASE pay closer attention to the difference
between "think" and "thing",
people.
