Just my 2 cents here: look at Greek and Celtic mythology. In Greek, Hera
was the doting mother to several gods and demi-gods, but if you crossed Zeus
or one of her mortal children, you'd become a cow guarded by a 100-eyed
monster. Cerridwen in Welsh mythology was known for eating her enemies, but
she was all kindliness when it came to her son. Of course, when a salmon
stew ment for her son winds up being eaten by a servant named Gwydion , she
actually eats him, and then rebirths him to his wiser persona, Taliesin,
better known as Merlin.

When you consider these two mythologies were developed millenia before
modern religion, and were among the frist religions of man, it's not so
far-fetched to conclude that this particular foible is commonplace among
humankind. Or, as William put it, "You can be a motherly person like that,
and STILL be an evil, world-dominating bitch."

Again, just my 2 c's worth.

Jenny
