ehnnn.. I think that you're kinda missing the whole
point of what AMS is
about and how the characters grew and changed over the
last 166 chapters of the story.
There's a lot you are missing too. I think the point was
less of a crossover and more of a fusion. Additionally
this is the author's story and by the looks of things it's
going to be an AU, which opens things up quite a bit.
I think the point Steven was making in his (admittedly long) post was
that we're dealing with 2 fundamentally different story dynamics,
here. AMG is driven by the Belldandy/Keiichi relationship and by the
personalities of the characters, much more so than the Ranma/Akane
relationship or the personalities of the Ranma cast. For an AMG fan,
a story that changes the Belldandy/Keiichi relationship or the
personalities of the cast is like writing a Ranma story with no
Jusenkyou curses or fiances. He'd still be a martial artist, but the
driving forces would be gone and it'd probably be a boring story.
I'm not saying it can't be done, but it requires a good deal of care
on the part of the writer not to create something which has no point
from the AMG perspective. Otherwise you might as well name the
goddess Harriet, because no AMG fan would guess it's Belldandy. On
the other hand, there's no law that a crossover/fusion has to appeal
to all the fanbases it derives from. It's just something to consider.
There are fics which violate the Belldandy/Keiichi pairing and are
done well. Goddess in the Mirror is a fine example of such a story.
